Location: Australia | I used to post on this forum. I had been since I was 14. I've loved barrel racing and rodeo since I was born. It's what I grew up with.
I had been training a mare from, well, less than scratch, she had every bad habit and worse you can imagine in a barrel horse... I used to post here for advice. I was making do as best I could with what I had, which was very very little. Not mummy and daddy's money to pay my fees and haul me around, not someone else's horses to ride when I couldn't use my own... I had a beat up saddle, an old bridle my dad made me when I was 12, a mare who was out of The Bush by Hard Riding, and a lot of big dreams. I was once told people can take everything from you, but they can never take your dreams.
Maybe not, but they can sure as hell crush them. Like one poster on this forum did.
Last year I made a post, I can't remember about what now, but some people, one in particular, took a dislike to what I was saying, what I did with my horse, why I was coming here for advice. She had a good long rant about how inexperienced I looked, how stupid I sounded, blah blah blah. I deleted all my posts, wiped my info, and have not been on here since. I was embarrassed.
This crossed my mind again today. And I laughed. Is this how the "pros" encourage the younger generation of barrel racers? Is this how you build up and support the sport of rodeo? By hacking down every person who doesn't have the money to waste on brand name gear, arenas, ready-made horses? I will never give up on my horses or my dreams but thanks to this one lady, who lives in a whole other country, I have attended very few rodeos since. Because the cattiness and *****iness I got actually at rodeos was nothing compared to the ignorance, the pretentiousness, the bull**** I have encountered on this forum. I'd like to thank the few who were encouraging and supported me, it meant the world and I still remember everything I was told from those few. But to the ones, like that one poster. Take a good hard look at yourself. You are no role model, not a person young girls should aspire to if THAT is the way you handle any little thing you disagree with. I tried my best to explain my issues. no I didn't do things the same way as you but I did my best, I guess in the world of barrel racing that wasn't good enough.
I have accomplished so much with my mare. She was nearly dead when I bought her, when I first started her on drums I couldn't even get her to the first or she'd start bucking (from previous owners inexperience and mistreatment "barrel racing" in a suburban backyard) she hated it... Since then she has come SO far and will now make "beautiful" runs, maybe not the fastest, maybe no the best. To me that means she tries her heart out, she listens, and she does her best. That is enough for me. That means more than any buckle or trophy or cash prize ever could. Because I did it, I did it all by myself, and I did it despite catty girls like you tearing me down. But thank you for being someone to prove wrong, and showing me if I want to be a decent person, how I should NEVER behave towards anyone.

ETA I didn't see the post you are talking about, but there are plenty of good kindharted people on this forum, so don't let a nasty post scare you away... And keep us posted about your mare and both your accomplishments!

Location: Australia | Thankyou! I usually trust every person on here with their advice and will try anything. But this person went back through ALL my old posts and insulted me and my horsemanship and every question I ever asked, it was very off putting!
I am currently living interstate pursuing a small business management degree for another big dream of mine, and my babies are enjoying a nice long break! My girl is at the point where she can be left for a length of time and still comes back (rather slowly!) but I'm not battling for weeks to get her back on drums without acting like she's never seen a drum before like I used to.

| You typed a mouth full there. I am very proud of you for bouncing back. They are your dreams and don't ever let someone tear them down. Some people are so insecure that they have to rip others. | |

I, too, have been bullied on this forum by someone who attacks if you don't agree w him and has taken me a long while to come back. There a lot of helpful and knowledgeable folks on here. Don't let the bullies win!! Glad you are back and pursuing your dreams!!

Location: Displaced Iowegian | Every so often I post the "true" rules......
1. This is a PUBLIC board – it is hard (next to impossible) to control someone else’s thought and opinions.
2. If you (“general” plural use of the word ”you”) post a question, opinion, or controversial statement, perhaps, you should not be surprised if it does illicit comments that fall into the Good, Bad, or Ugly category. (Refer to #1)
3. If you feel that you are not able to process or ignore the “Bad or Ugly” comments, perhaps you should refrain from commenting until you feel more confident.
4. If, at any given time, you do feel the “need” to resort to personal attacks or name calling, perhaps, you should look in the mirror to ensure that you have NEVER been guilty of the same sin (i.e. Those who live in glass houses, should not throw stones OR Judge not lest YOU be judged).
5. If, at any given time, you STILL feel the “need” to attack or call names, perhaps, you should not be surprised if the person you attack jumps in your “Rose Garden” and stomps all over your pretty flowers!
6. If, at any given time, you DO feel your “panties (shorts or whitey-tightys) in a wad”, perhaps you should step away from the computer and change your underwear.
7. If, at any given time, you feel the “need” to tell someone what they should or should not, what they can or can not post, or where they should “go”, perhaps, you need to check your name tag to see if it reads “owner” or “mod” of BHW. 8. If, at any given time, you feel the “need” to “fabricate” a story or your life history, please be assured that there are many sleuths and detectives on BHW who will “ferret out” the TRUTH. So try not to be “offended”.
9. If you are a "right fighter" (one who will fight to the death to prove you, and you alone, are RIGHT), perhaps, you may want to schedule your appointment with Dr. Phil soon!
PS..............my appointment is Friday at 4 PM........ 10. If your thread goes “south”, please don’t whine and cry to the “mods”. Walk away, with dignity, with lesson learned….Refer to Rule # 1 11. When all else fails………………ALWAYS Refer to Rule #1
I type this all in “tongue in cheek” BUT if it offends you, you are probably guilty of one or more of the above………

Location: North Central Iowa Land of white frozen grass | What doesn't kill you will make you stronger. Glad you are back. Look at Fallon Taylor. She walks her own path and she has became the WPRA champion. My daughters started out with very cheap horses and all used tack. It was all we could afford as farming in the 80,s was pretty bleek money wise for someone just starting out. They rode the hooves off of those horses and both became very successful in playdays here. It was sure fun watching them beat some high priced horses. Walk your own path in life. The only person in life you have to impress is yourself. We only get one chance in life so just be happy with yourself.
