I bought some stuff at TSC that is called WAR PAINT. It is an insecticide. The Buffalo gnats here are beyond belief. It works better than anything I have found for ears. It should work for for ticks but does not say for ticks. Valley vet has it much cheaper. It looks like stick deodorant.

We have them BAD this year. The vet had to treat my gelding bc he was not having it from me. He used one part pyrethrin and 4 parts water mixed in syringe. Cheap and works.

I keep their ears greased up with swat. Keeps everything out of them :)
Yeah.. SWAT works really well.... But.... when we used it.. it only came in one color.... Hot Pink... That's ok with a mare or filly.. But not so well with a macho guy horse....
Sure.. it keeps the bugs out of the ears... But when he perks his ears forward and you see that color??

In their ears you can put campho phenique and baby oil put in syringe and squirt in ear, rub around on their ear and down by base of ear..... oil smothers the ticks, campho helps heal.

daisycake123 - 2016-06-01 6:44 AM how aqbout ticks in there privates.
It probably depends on your area and the ticks that you encounter, but I had good luck with Equi-Spot for ticks. It didn't do anything for flies IMO, but I saw a dramatic impact with the ticks.
