If they are fire ants and you can locate their mounds ....
I found a cup of diesel fuel poured into the mound will kill the queen and the fumes will suffocate the entire colony ....
Most ant poisons seems to just tick them off and they move over a couple of feet and come back stronger than ever ..
I do mounds in the pasture too with the diesel ..
There is a new tiny ant that builds very small swirl type mounds less than a foot apart that will kill fire ants but there is no reasonable way to kill all of the small swirls you find everywhere once they populate an area ......... cold weather and lots of drowning rain will create a temporary decline in population. Their sting is about 1/3 as powerful as a fire ants... and they are tiny in size... ... these came over on banana boats from Venezuela ... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Tempo, you can get it in a concentrate or granular. Works great and you can use it anywhere. I use it on the ground around my hummingbird feeder. I know a guy that is the grounds keeper for apartments and he uses the granular around the buildings. It is great stuff. Should be able to get it at farm store, co-op or vet clinic
