So just to preface because it's been a long time...

We bought a mare for my mom last May. The sellers swore that even though she was pastured with a mini donkey stud and they also owned a 3YO colt, that there was no way this mare was bred- that the colt never got out, and the mini was too small. Well, four months into us owning her she started acting cinchy and I looked at her and told my mom, "We've raised a few babies now and she really looks like the two preggo mares we have right now." So we took her to the vet and he said yep, I can feel it and its at least 4 months along. So, about right with his timing, on April 1 she foaled. We didn't know if it would be a mule or a horse, and it ended up being a horse (sigh of relief).

Then it was time to try and get her registered because it was unplanned, and lord knows where the colt is now. Miraculously, we were able to get all the papers signed, paid his new owners to give us a sample of the colt's hair for DNA and 5 Panel (oh and he's a gelding now BTW so he really had no need to do any of it but was nice enough to help us). Long story short we just submitted her registration application!

I think she looks pretty impressive for being a total unplanned oops baby. Honestly, I think she looks pretty nice for a planned baby! She's not the oldest foal we have but she's by far the biggest. Both her sire and dam are under 14.2 and she looks like a monster. I wonder how tall she will end up

She is ALL COW! I am such a running bred horse fan, or the mix of run on barrel lines.. But she is all cow bred and gosh, her poor sire is way too line bred for me, but she turned out fine!

In reference to your comment about line breeding, you should name her "Too Much Colonel"

As usual, I love all the babies you share with us, but this one just warms my heart a little more!

Yeah we really like her. She's grown on all of us. When she was first born she was scared of us because her mom was way too good at protecting her. So for the first month or so she was hard to handle and touch. But the older she gets, the friendlier she is. She actually follows me around for scratches now :P. We really have to figure out how to fit all these horses because we really want to keep her just to see how she turns out!

LOVED Colonel Jesse James! A lady about 45 minutes from me owned him. Gritty sucker! She could do anything in the world on him and he would do it well. She ran barrels on him and one year she let a girl use him in our local queen's contest.

Oh....and he was gorgeous!!!!

And now for the plot twist. The DNA submitted to get her sire DNA tested and 5 panel tested... His DNA doesn't match his papers completely. Dam is correct, sire is not. So now I don't know what to do at this point.

Sire's papers are wrong, yes. I found out he was also an oops baby, and they assumed it was the stud in a pen close to her. Apparently it was stud B who had to have bred her through a fence they said. It must run in the family! So the paternal grandsire is most likely this stallion here:

If you suspect who the sire's sire is, you can request AQHA to compare against the DNA of that stallion.  Never hurts to ask.    This is why DNA testing is so important, all these oops babies,,,

AQHA is actually being really awesome with all of this. The owner on file for the stallion is going to call them and tell them they think it's the other one.. Hopefully that will get us somewhere.
