I posted a couple weeks ago I was having saddle problems. I put my old memory foam on and could lope forever without my saddle slipping. So as excited as I am that's it was my saddle pad, I now need to shop for something similar to my old memory foam. I got it yrs ago, probably for Christmas. I don't think it was too expensive. So what are some good pads, not breaking the bank, that you recommend. Something that will not cause my saddle to slip and provides cushion and comfort to my horses. Would you go with a memory foam type saddle or a gel?

Besides just getting a nice pad, make sure you have a quality girth. My mom was having a terrible time with her saddle slipping. She had my old hand me down Impact Gel pad and a new 5 star pad and it was still slipping. I went and rode with her last spring and and got on her mare and couldn't beleive how bad it slipped. Turns out she was using a $10 girth that she got at 4H fundraiser auction. I went and got my Classic Equine Mohair roper style cinch that I wasn't using at the time and Wah-Lah problem fixed. That was over a year ago and I haven't gotten my cinch back :)
Personally, I like the Classic Equine Mohair and the Professional Choice Wool when it comes to cinches. I won't let Meoprene touch my horses.
As far as pads, I love the look and feel of the 5 stars, but haven't broken down and got one yet. My mom loves her 5 star. I have a used Tod Slone Wool pad and a Used Slash W wool pad and I love both of them. I will never spend money on an Impact Gel again. I also had good results with a CorrecTor pad but that was when I had saddle fit problems. Those are the only brands I have personal experience with.

I'm having trouble with my roping saddles slipping. I have always used the classic equine mohair roper cinch but couldn't get them so I went with the Alpaca. I don't know if it is that or not but I am going to change the out and see if it is any better. One saddle I'm using the same pad so I know it isn't that but the other saddle I have a new CSI pad so that could be part of it. I'm hoping that it isn't the pad since they are expensive.
