This year the flies are worse then ever and even with sheets, boots, and spray the horses are getting eaten alive. Our feedlot cattle all have fly tags and the flies don't even bother them. So I was wondering have you ever used cattle fly tags for horses? I checked the ingredients and they're all safe for horses, while I wouldn't pierce it through their ear I could make up some kind of way to tie it in their tail or mane. Ideas or suggestions??

I was told years ago to put it on twine and hang it around their neck.

I do this evey year

I use a zip tie to attach the two ends so if by chance they get hung on something it breaks easy enough.

Do the fly tags work to keep flies off the animals?

We have used them for many years. I just braid them into their manes and tails.

I have thought about doing this. One of my horses gets 'bugged' but rips a flysheet.

Just saw on Valley Vet when I did a search for the tags that someone put them in their electrical boxes to keep the ants out. Never would have thought of that.

I can't believe I've never even thought of this! I love the idea of putting them on a fly mask! I will have to do some experimenting

Most of the ones I've seen have been on halters...the way the tag works is that the animal swings its head around to get the flies off and ends up rubbing the tag on its body transferring the chemical to keep the flies off

I've always tied them into their mane with twine.  They seem to work okay.
