Location: Arkansas | We are trying to plan a summer trip. It will be a long weekend type trip and are considering the San Antonio area. Advice on things to do, places to stay, places to eat, etc... Of course, I know about the Alamo and River Walk. Also, must go to tack stores, etc. |

| D & D Farm and Ranch off of I 10 east of San Antonio.
Float the river at New Braunfels and they also have Schlitterbaun if you like water parks.
They usually have some kind of festival on the weekends that are good to go to. |

I am glad you said that. Sadly, it is true, especially at your hotel. |

Location: Lone Star State | We just took a family vacation to San Antonio...my husband loves going there. Of course we did the river walk, Alamo, and floated the river. The water was high this time we visited so we floated the Comal River instead and it was nice. If you have kids, Sea World is a must! We also like the natural parks around: Natural Bridges Caverns, Perdenales State Park/Perdenales Falls, Hamilton Pool near Austin. Recommend Mi Tierra if you're looking for a Mexican restaurant. |

Amen to that. They love older pick up trucks to steal. We never take our 2001 Dodge Truck into San Antonio, we take the 2014 Cadillac SRX..

Location: In the Hills of Texas | Love the Natural Bridge Caverns outside of San Antonio.
If you are into water, New Braunfels is a must. You can go tubing or visit Schillterbahn, the #1 rated water park in the US.
I usually take visitors to the Missions in San Antonio.
There is a new tack shop closer to the downtown San Antonio area that carries quality tack and clothes called Wheelers in Boerne.
How far out of San Antonio do you want to venture? |

We don't have a plan at all, so no limit really. Not even completely set on San Antonio, just the general area. We have not been to that part of Texas before. We usually just go to the Ft Worth area. No kids along so probably no water park but might be game to float the river. |

I believe it. We were on vacation when we went and had our pickup and camper. There were some fun things there but we sure didn't feel that comfortable. |

Yikes!!!! you're going to cook to death lol! We went in March and it was awesome! We did the regular tourist things, the riverboat was enjoyable. There was this cool tex-mex restaurant that was very good right on the river. :) Which way are you coming from? I could recommend things on the way? |

| I'll second the missions if you like history. San Antonio has some amazing Mexican food and some really good Tex-Mex. There is a ton of history and it's a walkable downtown.
If you like a nightlife there are some great bars downtown. I love San Antonio, I basically grew up there. |

| The Buckhorn Saloon and museum is great. Fredricksburg if you like to go antiquing. The Menger? Hotel has a bar/saloon that Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders frequented. It is one of the few bars in San Antonio that allows smoking so it can be tough to tour. |

If you go to the Natural Bridge Caverns do a little homework before you go or visit the gift shop area and study the drawing of the entire cave system. You will tour only a minor part of the underground caves and its history is very interesting. The caves were discovered through a very small hole in the ground originally. |

Also, if you can lock your tailgate on your pickup, do it! That is a big item to get stolen also. |

| Grew up in San Antonio. Huge variety of things to do in the area.
For history lovers:
The missions! Rent a bike and ride by all of them. San Antonio is one of the most bike friendly places in the nation!
The Alamo downtown, tons of cool stuff right in that area.
Here's a cool list!
http://visitsanantonio.com/english/Explore-San-Antonio/Arts-Culture...
For the haunted house lovers:
The Menger, the Gunter, and the Davy Crockett are super haunted!
http://www.mysanantonio.com/guidetosa/slideshow/Haunted-spots-in-Sa...
The spooky railroad tracks are a neat attraction!
Water lovers:
Sea world! Not only a neat water park, but this is the last year to see the Orca show. Cool as an adult as a kid.
New Braunfuls is an AWESOME place. Schlitterbahn is expensive, but you can take a picnic and float the lazy rivers.
Or just hit up the comal river at Prince Solms Park. (not going to suggest the Guadalupe, because most of the time, you have to get up and walk a lot of it.
Nightlife and Dancing:
The Pearl Brewery beer gardens just reopened in downtown and it is GORGEOUS and historical!
Gruene Hall in Gruene, TX is one of the oldest dance halls in the state, and make sure to eat at the Gristmill while there. Also, lots of shopping there!
Floores Country Store in Helotes makes for some good dancing too.
Downtown SA has tons of cool bars and breweries!
Little extra things:
Take a Segway tour of downtown! So, so neat. Lots of history, and all of the tours I've been on the tour guides are great and friendly.
The Majestic theater is a MUST see, purely for the architecture inside and out. It's beautiful.
Any other questions I'd be happy to answer!

I love that place. We have only been once, but it was really cool. I loved how the crowd was really into the rodeo. Is that normal, or was it only that night? |
