anyone have a horse with ks, pelvis, or si issues that had a lot of muscle atrophy in the back after 7 or so weeks turned out to pasture? Horse has never atrophied before and feed program was unchanged.

I'd have him tested for EPM. Anytime there's muscle atrophy, that's typically neurological.

I second the EPM. Vet first. Massage therapist second.

The last mare I bred had a foaling injury that impinged on a nerve and caused severe muscle atrophy on one side of her rear end.   She couldn't pick up the back leg on the affected side because something back there was pushed out of whack. I kept thinking it would resolve with time, but it didn't. One session with a chiro fixed her and the muscle came back so well you couldn't tell she had been injured.

I had a horse that had some deep tissue strain in the hip. He had fallen. His muscle atrophied and I used massage therapy to get the blood flowing back into the muscle. It worked great.

Currently rehabbing a horse with a pelvis injury. Turned him out for 9 months and there was severe muscle atrophy on one side. Bone scan, prp, injections, magnawave, chiro, etc. You name it we did it, he'll never be right. One side is always going to be stronger. Vet seems to think he will heal and can race again but never look right. Guess we will see. :-/ Curious to hear other experiences.
