I have a huge gelding that is a strong runner. What's a good rate bit. He's 6 so sometimes gets to going too fast

Look into a molly powell rate and turn or an Ed Wright Pretzel

Depends on how broke he is and if he's just strong or if he's flipping you the bird and running off.

I do like a pretzel on a stronger horse, but I feel you have to have good hands and you cannot get in their face when you don't need to be there. The horse I ran one in did not like his face touched on the pattern except to turn, so I needed a bit that had enough oompf to get his attention immediately and then I could get out of his face an go on to the next barrel.

If he's running through bits I think there is a case for going back to slow work and retraining his face to respect your hands and a bit.
