Everytime they get in the water on these shows I just think to myself "these people are nuts!". I appreciate sharks and I am facinated by them but I will not get into water that they occupy. |

I think getting bitten, attacked or eaten by another creature is my worst fear. Shark, Bear, Mountain lion......pretty much why I don't go in water or mountains. |

Location: Bastrop, Texas | I've always been fascinated by sharks. I've had a few encounters and one of the most vivid memories I have was when I witnessed an actual "attack".....when I was rooting for the shark. I was on a dive boat and one of the divers was a jerk from NYC. Divers understand that you don't need to touch coral reefs to enjoy them, and it's not nice to tease or harass the animals. This guy decides to unsheath his foot long knife and just "poke" an innocent looking 2-3 foot long little nurse shark....just to get him to swim. The annoyed youngster swam up to a little ledge on the coral reef. The dink followed him and started poking at him again. My dive buddy and I just watched and shook our heads in disbelief. Suddenly, the youngster darted out from the ledge in a flash, whipped around, bit the cocky lawyer in the ass, shook violently, and sauntered off into the blue. The guy shot up to the surface, about 80 feet, like a bullet. He had about a dozen little lacerations on his hairy ass and a big hole in his fancy, color- coordinated wet suit. I'll never forget the sound of myself laughing hilariously underwater. Later on, when our dive was over and we were back on board, I asked if he felt better after teasing the baby nurse shark. "(Expletive) you!" was his only response, as he sat on his blood soaked towel, grimacing in pain.
Karma. |

That was sooo funny, I am laughing so hard after reading this, that jack wagon really got what was coming to him, I know that nurse sharks are really layed back and mind their own business and then someone comes along and bugs them, ha ha ha ha ha, thats just to da* funny. I think it was on wild life animal show I was watching, were someone came across a small nurse shark in shallow water and picked it up and wanted to kiss it and it latched on his top lip, what a dumb butt, he had to of course get stiches after that kiss of death, lol. |

I want to do a cage dive with great whites so bad! Here's my biggest shark catch - she's a 6.5 ft 2-300 lb nurse off Melbourne beach, fl. Took me 60 minutes to reel in and my arms were so sore the next day!
And yes, I released her, unless we eat them we release tbem. Its also bad karma for a surfer to kill a shark
Don't mind my pole on the ground (big no no for fishermen)

What an idiot, he got what he deserved. He is also lucky that while darting to the surface he didn't get the BENZ and kill himself. Some people.....smh.

Yes, he's lucky he didn't get decompression sickness. He inflated that BCD vest and shot up like an elevator. I reminded him that he was a dish!t for that as well. I'll never forget watching him dart up, with a swirl of bloody water streaming from his ass in his wake. |

I meant BENDS not Benz, it's not a car but you know what I meant. That always worried me the most about diving as I've heard horror stories. Even at 40 ft I would ascend as slowly as I could. I'm more of a free diver as I never got fully certified and everything is shallow here. We used to go to the west coast where you had to go 30 miles just to get to deeper water because the boys wanted to do 90-120 ft dives, I never went. I usually scrubbed the barnacles off the Rudders while they were diving.
I love shallow reef and ship wrecks. We did have an encounter with a quite large tiger shark off the coast of ft pierce one year, it's like now you see it, now you don't! It was massive, probably 15ft range.

Location: Bastrop, Texas | Tigers, whites, and bull sharks are the ones I'd run away from for sure. I think the bull sharks are the ones causing most of the problems on the east coast and Florida.
In 2012 I took the family, including grandkids, out to vacation on an island off the NC coast. The beaches there are just fantastic, and I love the crashing surf. The kids were like 1-3 years old and waded out into a couple feet of water off and on, with the adults watching closely. We did this every day. Late one afternoon while the kids were napping, we were sitting out on the balcony just talking, drinking refreshments, etc... As I was staring out at the mesmerizing surf a 6-8 foot bull shark swam right up onto the beach, thrashing and flopping around. I quickly pointed it out and we watched the show for a few minutes until he wiggled back into the water. We watched his dorsal fin go back and forth in probably 2-3 feet of water. Then some dish!t decides to stalk it with his IPhone. People yelled and hollered at the guy. It's too bad, really, because they interfered with what was meant to be nature's way of culling out the stupid amongst us. |

I know at South Padre Island there has been some really big hammerheads caught in the surf and out in the bay. Dont really care for getting in the water at the beach knowing that there is sharks around all the time.

Thanks for posting these! They were Galapagos sharks, about 9 or 10 feet long, and absolutely stunning. Our tour did not chum the waters, either. |

| I have been to Australia several times and let me tell you, Shark week and the movie " Jaws" has kept me out of the water. Even ankle deep NO WAY. LOL Here is what I don't get.... there was a surfer there that was killed by a huge great white.... News said authorities were trying to track it down and kill it because it had become a " Man eater"....
1) The surfer was in Australia and was Australian..... he knowingly went into extremely dangerous situation. His choice.
2) Why kill a shark for doing what its supposed to do? Hunt and eat.. Just stupid to me. |

Exactly, you swim, surf at your own risk. I love watching how they catch, tag and releast these awesome fish. Last night they would tag Great Whites and with the tag they had a remote control camera follow the sharks, and was darn cool watching them in the deep.. |
