I am currently looking to possibly relocate to Central TX area, I want to be within close driving proximity to Giddings, Johnson City, Dripping Springs, and San Antonio but not to where I will have to drive 2 hours to barrel races on the weekend. Any advice on where to live and/or not live where I could look for a place that I can have my horses with me would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks !!

There are a lot of miles in between all of those. A lot of how long it will take you will depend on where you're leaving from, time of day, and the roads taken. If you have to go across Austin in high traffic hours you might pack a lunch. If you move to the east side of Austin Giddings is within an hour, Elgin, Georgetown, Gonzales, Seguin... etc. That being said I lived 35 miles from Dripping Springs and it took me up to an hour and a half several times to get across Austin. No matter where you move there are jackpots that will be close. I would base where exactly you move depending on where you work.

I am in the Bastrop area and there is always something close to go to. Elgin, Giddings, Dripping Springs, Caldwell, Gonzales, Bryan, San Antonio, and Wharton are all less than 2 hours from us (among many others). I love it here!!

I have lived east of IH35 my whole life except for 5 years when I moved to Brady.  I personally would never move west of Austin.  Too much traffic and property is higher unless you move way west.

I just purchased property Milam County, but if you go east of Austin, Giddings is a lot cheaper than Elgin.  Elgin prices are out of control.  Also take into account the taxes.  Travis, Bastrop, Williamson and Hays Counties are a lot higher.  When you go to the counties surrounding those, you will find it a little more affordable.   Good luck.
