Get pure organic ground turmeric in bulk. It's cheap and you can get it at most large grocery stores that have bulk spices.

Mix 1/2 c turmeric powder in 1-2 c water and simmer for about 8-10 mins. Add or subtract water to form the thickness you desire....paste.

Stir in 1/3 c coconut oil (olive oil is ok too).
Add 1.5 tsp FRESH ground pepper.

Mix it up.

Guidelines:
Horses - 2 tsp a day. I give a tablespoon with feed.
dogs- 1 tsp
Hoomans - 1 tsp ....I take 2.

I usually "chase" it with something that neutralizes the whale poop flavor, like OJ....or vodka, if that's your thing.

Over on the Facebook group ( turmeric users group) they talk a lot about this stuff if you are interested. Some you have to take with a grain of salt, but it's still worth following.
For example some people were saying they were experiencing nausea, etc, with some Cur Ost types of preparations and they switched to the paste and claimed it was much better tolerated.

I used recipe doc posted and add a tablespoon of  Ceylon cinnamon.  I order from Missy's Spice Shop online and the prices are reasonable if you can't find good organic spices at a reasonable price near you.

I use it for its anti-inflammatory properties, much like an over the counter nsaid.

I use it for my horse who has allergies and whatnot as a cheaper substitute for CurOst and it works great. I feed it twice a day (frozen in little silicone molds) and before races 3 times is best. some only feed once a day though and that works

They recommend refrigerating it, and they say you can even freeze it.
I'm not sure why refrigeration is necessary, but that's their recommendation.

You can buy this in pill form too.  I take the pills then I don't have to deal with the nasty taste...

I didn't know that. Do the pills contain lipid/fat?

Bumping this back up with a question for the resident experts

Is there any reason to feed the paste over just loose tumeric, assuming they'll eat it? Or loose with a squirt of healthy coat to make it stick?

I have 2 with no outstanding issues but want to support them and can't justify the cost of cur ost right now.

I took cur ost for humans for a little while, haven't noticed my major knee pain subsiding but have noticed a few other minor aches come back since I ran out. I'm experimenting with a tumeric pill because $8/mo is a lot better than $40 for only the minor aches.

I feed tumeric root powder, add a few fresh peppercorns, pepper and a fat, my horses eat it but they are pigs that will eat  anything. :)   I have noticed my old achy retired guys are much more active.  I take a liquid form called synchro, it has eliminated the swelling and pain in the ball of my foot I get when I workout.

I think you need to have the fats and black pepper to help activate the turmeric. I'm not exactly sure, I just know it works from my own personal experience with the paste I made.

I take a brand called Terry Naturally CuraMed. Plus I also take the CurOst for Humans. I still have issues but I am not taking as many over the counter stuff like Aleve, Advil, etc. I still have a lot of aches and pains.
