| Best pads? I am in the market for a new pad- I barrel race, pole bend, ranch, and trail ride, etc on my horse so after a year my pad has taken quite a beating! I currently have a Classic Equine Zone pad and I do like it but I want to see what else is out there and what other people like and why! I need a thinner pad as my horse is a short, thick barrel and my saddle wouldn't fit as nicely with a bulky pad! My current pad is about 3/4" thick and it fits pretty nicely with my saddle, so looking for pads that are made in that thickness! Thanks in advance!! |

Location: Somewhere around here | 5 star, all the way. Just bought my first one last month and it's amazing. I bought a new saddle, thinking that my old one was too big for my horse, and after I bought my 3/4" 5 star my old saddle actually fits him like a glove! Never thought a saddle pad could make such a difference. I clean it every time I ride now, just so it stays nice lol! |

| How do you clean your 5 star pad? And also do they provide a lot of protection and shock absorption for your horses back? I would get a thicker pad but I can't go any higher than 3/4" for my horse! And one more question- do they run close to size? Like if you order a 3/4" does it measure at 3/4" thickness? This one girl ordered a 7/8" one and said she didn't know it would "be so thick"...then again she's not really know for her brains (not to be mean, but it is true) so maybe she just didn't know how thick 7/8" was! |

| For 5 stars I have various thicknesses from 1/2" (thinnest) to 1 1/8" (thickest).
Yes they run true to size in my opinion. But it's a denser wool, that's why it may appear or feel thicker, you can't pinch it down like you can the lesser quality pads that are just "fluff". But that's what provides the protection and shock absorption.
My oldest one is 5 or 6 years old though now, it doesn't get quite as much use since our collect has expanded but it is in fine shape and was used hard for a number of years. |

5 star pads are true to size but dense! So much cushion! I've had mine for 10 years and it's still going strong. |

I would stick with a 3/4, the 3/4 pad is what I really like with my good fitting saddles, I do have a 1/2 inch like it too but with the 3/4 inch I feel like theres a tiny bit more support. |

Location: Phoenix | So I had always used 1" pads in other brands (Classic Equine, Bayou West, Impact Gel, Tod Slone) but when I actually measured them, they were less than 1" because they had broken down. I ended up going with a 7/8" because I had never used a 3/4" and was nervous about it. 7/8" was perfect for me and I trail ride & rope. I can use a thin Navajo underneath it or alone and it's perfect. Now that I know how much protection the pads provide, I would get a 3/4" or 1/2" in a heartbeat if that's all that my horse/saddle needed. Hope that helps clear the size thing up.

| Yeah I might get a 1/2" because then I could always get a pad liner if it's too small, but she's a big horse and the Classic equine has thinned out a lot so I wouldn't want to get one that makes her saddle fit too tight |

Location: Missouri | I bought a 3/4" 5 star almost a year ago now and it's been a great pad. But after trying a friend's saddle right pad I regret buying the 5 star almost every time I ride. I like my 5 star, but I'd rather have a saddle right. They just seem to hold up better and provide more shock absorbance. |
