I just had my cat spayed Wednesday. She was mostly an outdoor cat and she ended up getting pregnant and I had brought her inside because she had been bitten by a snake and couldn't walk, anyway, she had her kittens inside. I eventually moved them out to the shop. I waited till kittens were eating solid food and water to take mom in to get fixed. The vet said to keep her inside for a few days to heal. She is so thin it's alarming! Those kittens really took it out of her even though they had access to food. I'm wanting to keep her inside from now on... but the thing is her milk has obviously come back in and she looks like she has udders! It looks painful! Will her milk dry up if I keep her away from her kittens a while? The kittens are just fine outside on their own.
Thank you.. I'm sure it's normal with her just having surgery and being away from the kittens but this cat seems depressed. She just lays around and then gets up and goes and howls at the back door to go out.. she vomited this morning I didn't realize a little cat like her could hold that much food! She needs to gain badly.
Had the cat stopped nursing completly before spaying? Our vet will not spay a cat unless she has not been nursing for a couple of weeks.
Honestly I really don't know since they were all outside together until I took her to the vet. I didn't think they were still nursing since they were eating kitten food but it's a possibility. The clinic I took her too, also said when they spayed her she was indeed in heat again. I never realized they could go into heat so quickly after having a litter!
