| No. Just no.
You want to straighten out your life, you want Couch to 5K and Pilates, combined with twice weekly weight training.

| I love it. I started a few months ago and can't believe the difference it has made in my riding and my overall health. I love the environment, the workouts, the social aspect of it - everything. I've never found anything I can stick with past a couple of weeks, and I'm going on 4 months of going 4-5 times a week.
There are those that have given crossfit a bad name doing stupid, dangerous stunts, and lifting/exercising ahead of ability and with poor form. But, if you are careful about knowing what your limits are and you have a good coach, that's not really an issue.

| Mine is a level 2. She doesn't do the "on ramp" program, but does a mini-series of intro workouts called 101 classes. You have to do 6 sessions with her before she'll let you into the classes full-swing. These were really beneficial for me. I used to be a weightlifter in high school, so it was great to refresh my memory and make sure I had good form on everything and had an intro to how the workouts actually go. | |

| My daughter loves cross fit. The most important thing with any exercise program is finding one that you can stay committed to even on the days you don't feel like doing it. I love group classes, hate machines. Cross fit is very motivating and supportive, great atmosphere. | |

| There are multiple options within the Crossfit from what I understand. You can choose from different style workouts that suit you. Some choose the more intense weight lifting training type and some choose more of a cardio style. I know 2 women who go and love it. They do the more cardio style. There is weight lifting, but not the intense like you see on those Crossfit Competitons. There are several people with whom I work who do Crossfit and absolutely love it. They love the atmosphere, the coaching, and the encouragement from the others in the "box". Some Crossfit places have open gym times and classes. I think you can choose what suits you best after working with the instructors for proper techniques. There can be lots of injuries if not trained properly and if the person doesn't not use those proper techniques.
Look on Susie McEntire's Facebook page. (Reba McEntire's sister) Susie does Crossfit at 50 something years old and looks great. Her husband Mark is a certified Crossfit trainer. It is a public page so you don't need a Facebook account to view her page. She has videos of some of her workouts. https://www.facebook.com/susiemcentire/

Yep. I've read SO MANY stories from legit professional trainers who have nothing positive to say about Crossfit. The moves are dangerous, and the "trainers" don't necessarily know what they're doing, or can't tell you what you're doing wrong.
Out of curiosity, I looked to see what you have to do to get "certified" to be a Crossfit trainer:
To receive a Level 1 Trainer Certificate, one must:
1. Be at least 17 years old at the time of the test.
2. Be in good standing with CrossFit Inc.
3. Attend the entire two-day course (approximately 9 a.m.-5 p.m. both days), to include: 100 percent exposure to all lectures. ...
4. Pass the Level 1 test in person
So yeah, I totally want a 17 year-old who has a whopping 16 hours of "training" to teach me how to get fit.

| Just like everything else, do your research ahead of time and pick a box that has good trainers and will fit what you are looking for.
Yes, people can get hurt. Yes, there are trainers out there that shouldn't be. Yes, not every box is for everyone. This isn't any different than any other type of gym, etc. Heck, even the horse industry sounds similar. So do your research and make sure it is a good fit for you.
My coach will instill proper form before he'll let you add much weight. Once you have proper form and are doing the regulard WOD's, he won't let you use more weight than what you are capable of doing efficiently. As far as picking a box that is right for you, some places only want those athletes who are hardcore and are training for comps, etc. Whereas myself, I just go because I enjoy this type of workout. A year later, I am still scaling WOD's and there are a lot of movements that I still can't do. But I haven't found any other form of fitness that I like as much as this! Give it a try and see how you like it.

Location: Sweet Home Alabama | I literally just joined 3 weeks ago! They have a month long mandatory class you have to take at the place I'm at. We meet every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 5. We go over basics and the right way to lift without straining our backs, etc. I went to an actual class the past 2 Fridays and holy crap, the first one wasn't too bad, but the second one was hell. I'm pretty determined and I can't recall a time that I've quit something, but I was like "I can't do this. I'm not cut out for this." Lol but the 3 coaches there are so supportive. Everyone is really. Everybody was high fiving me and saying good job and it gets better and blah blah blah. I really enjoyed it. It's $75 a month and they have 6 classes a day Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Open gym Wednesday and Saturday. The main reason I joined is because I feel Like I've been riding scared, and I kid you not, just 3 weeks later, I feel more confident on my moody, unpredictable mare. I'm like "bring it on brat" now when I'm on her. Haha. So yeah, I'd go check it out before you decide. The place I'm at let me have a tour and go to a few of the beginner classes before I decided.
ETA-I think if you like to challenge yourself, you'll love it. It's not easy but afterwards I feel so accomplished with my blood red face, sore muscles, and soaked clothes.

| Been going for 2 years. LOVE IT!!! You can get hurt in any gym or even working out at home or just running. It's each person preferance. This is the first time I have stuck with any workout program for any length of time. Don't listen to the nay sayers. Go and decide for yourself. It's really not a new concept. The military has been doing this kind of thing since the beginning of time. Good luck and good for you for wanting to get in shape!! You will ABSOLUTELY ride better as well. THAT is FOR SURE!!! | |

| I do something similar to crossfit but not to that extreme. I would encourage you to pursue something.....for me this type of strength format with a coach is what I need. I've been going for almost three years and am hooked. I don't feel as motivated as I have in the past........I originally started going because I couldn't keep up with my horse. Unfortunately he's been turned out for injury for a couple years. It can be very addicting though if you commit to it. I love all the highs that come from it. Also- as far as expensive goes- the place I go is a little spendy but if you think about it- it's like a health insurance plan (assuming you don't injure yourself) you are strengthening your body and preventing future health problems. Plus the more you go the "cheaper' it gets. | |

Well ante up-what kind of "real" sports do you do? My daughter who is very into Crossfit also had a college sports ride along with academic ride. After she really got out of shape and had no motivation and this helped her get not just in shape but way better shape than she has ever been. Part of the appeal to a lot of people is the group setting. Why you want to knock something that has helped a ton of people get back into shape is beyond me. Yes people get hurt but that happens in just everyday living.
