My horse has gotten comfortable where he is although I know he has more to give. Hes more of a push style. Tips on freeing him up especially across the pen. I've been thinking of buying a quirt with a popper on the end....

I spanked my horse once and shot across the arena super fast. She has remembered it since- ha! But typically I'll just do hustle drills from Point A to Point B etc. and they remember it after the first time, so when I lean forward, they go now, and quickly.

Give me the run down on hustle drills.

I made it up myself, haha! I'll set up barrels at random spots around my arena and basically make a barrel turn around one and then hustle hustle hustle to the next barrel I send them to.

Oh my goodness this made me laugh!

Side note: A producer out here just put on a 'pasture race' (with actual barrels instead of the round bales that I've seen in some videos). It was 115' X 130' with 60' eye. Working a pattern that big forced my ratey horses to move out and free up a TON. Obviously not everyone has that option, but putting that much room between the barrels and making them put in those extra strides certainly helped mine out.
