What are your guy's feeding plans? I am looking at feeding about a pound of alfalfa pellets/cubes 2x a day, 2 flakes of grass hay 2x a day, and then I am looking at a pellet. What are your opinions on feed (Strategy, Renew Gold, etc) I cannot feed her a sweet feed - gets hot (sugar spikes?). Also, does anyone see an issue with the alfalfa cubes/pellets and grass fed as said above? Thinking about the alfalfa cubes/pellets as I don't always have access to consistent quality alfalfa bales. Unsure with that amount of grain/alfalfa if I would need more grass hay (which wouldn't be a problem, just curious on opinions).

TIA

I feed free choice coastal hay, Renew Gold, Oats, Calf Manna because it's protein with less calories and I can't afford alfalfa here, DAC Orange, just enough Flax Seed oil to make the DAC Orange stick to the feed, and my gelding gets CurOst Stomach.

Pellets are too short cut to be a replacement for hay. All of my horses have free choice alfalfa whether in a stall or out to pasture.
All but two of my horses are on 6# (two scoops) of Legends Performance Pellet (they're fat!). The other two are on Tribute Alfa Essentials since they just got way too obese but still needed their nutrients.

I add different supplements based on each horse's needs. Very few of mine are on supplements.

I feed free choice bermuda round bales. I also feed alfalfa pellets with Adeptus Augment (multi vitamin/organic trace minerals). I keep my program simple.

Good quality mixed hay for all. We have 2 air ferns that get oats and mineral. The other 2 are more "regular keepers" and they get oats, mineral, beet pulp, and I feed magmax and Dac bloom. I'm probably going to back off the beet pulp and add in alfalfa pellets. We are still dialing in the feeding program but we like it a lot. None of ours are hot but no one is getting outrun by steers and everyone is clocking well around the barrels.

So, if I'm reading correctly, I should more than likely go with the alfalfa cubes instead of pellets and up the hay? I wish I could feed alfalfa hay but like I said above I don't always have access to good quality, and with the amount of rain we keep getting, its looking like we will hardly get any of quality put up at all. Any opinions between Renew Gold and Strategy/Ultium? I'm trying to keep a fairly mainstream feed just to be sure I can get it all the time.

Mine get 1-1.5 lbs of whole oats to mix their Cur-OST with, 1/4 cup flax, grass and alfalfa hay. They only get alfalfa in the AM, and fed oats once  a day and then of course all their grass hay

Alfalfa hay, Triple Crown Complete, whole flax, and joint supplements. I tried DAC oil, but out of 7 horses, I only saw one really blossom on it. So I won't be spending money on that anymore. I got my local TSC to order me 30 bags of Renew Gold. Can't wait to try it. Everyone on here raves over it .

I used to feed Ultium until I started reading about the effects sugar has on horses by working closely with an equine nutritionist.

These pelleted feeds are generally LOADED with molasses, which is sugar. Sugar is bad for just about every living thing and through my research have found evidence it has the addictive properties of cocaine. Try taking yourself off of it for a couple weeks and notice the difference in yourself! It's truly amazing!!!

Anywayyyyy, I have started feeding Renew Gold (no molasses, no corn) and I won't ever look back! This stuff is amazing! My horses look, act and I can only assume they feel better on it!

It's difficult to find quality ingredients that are effective while not breaking the bank. However, I HIGHLY recommend Renew Gold over any performance feed.

Good hay, good hay, good hay.  More good hay, less feed.  I feed Renew Gold mixed with Seminole Perform Safe (beet pulp, rice bran based low starch pellet), and LOTS of great hay.   You'll find the great hay replaces all of the fancy supplements.

You'll love the Renew Gold!!  I feed less than half of the amount of feed I used to and my horses look and act better than ever!  I used DAC oil briefly, no change, except one stopped sweating, LOL.

pellets dont replace forage..so id give more grass hay unless on nice pasture 24/7..Also I agree about Ultuim I think it makes some horse lunatics..  whole oats with soaked alfalfa pellets or cubes  are always a good choice..

Straight alfalfa cubes, minimum of 15 lbs, one horse is on them free choice.

1 lb twice daily rice bran. The easy keeper gets .5 lb.

Formula 707 Daily Essentials. That's it other than my bleeder gets a respiratory supplement.

They look just like rock stars and are running huffy times against really good competition.

I'm on a 5 week shoing schedule because their feet grow so fast. Manes and tails are long and require maintenance to keep them from getting too long. Dappled out. Drinking plenty of water.

Horses on pasture with no job get 5 lbs corn/oats/barley, 2 lbs rice bran once daily, and free choice round bale in winter.
