Location: Durango CO | Who all has horses by (or related to) the other full silbings to RQD? A Regal Choice, Hez Choice Property, First Sovereign, Harems Last Dash, etc. How are they doing on the track and in the barrel pen? What kind of temperment and work ethic do they have?
I have noticed a few people have said it takes a special person to really make a RQD horse great. Why is that? |

| My trainer has a son of Royal Quick Dash. He holds arena records. Had the second fastest time at joseys in the qualifying runs out of about 900 runs. He has always had trust issues. He is scared of everything. He trusts his owner but that is it. |

Location: Deep South | A farm near me stands a son of RQD. They are crazy athletic and talented, but fractious minded.
From what I have seen, they start off doing exceptionally well on the pattern very quickly, but tend to fall apart. |

| I had a phenomenal mare by RQD that was out of a Texas Hero daughter. She looked the part and was the bred the part and she was a total puke. Sweet mare, never did anything wrong, she just had zero drive to be a barrel horse. She's a great trail horse now.
I have a yearling ARC colt though that I think is going to be a good one out of a DTF daughter. |

| You all realize that a lot of RQD own get never made it to the barrel pen. At the height of his career, he stood for $10,000 and no barrel racer in the early 90's was going to pay that. His get also brought very good prices at the sales. Again, much higher than a barrel racer was going to pay for a prospect in those days.
ARC is a 2001 model where RQD was a 1989 model. Had the barrel racers not liked RQD, I doubt they would have tried ARC. ARC stands for $1,500. RQD is $3,500 with frozen only.
JMHO, but you are comparing apples to oranges in saying that ARC is better or more successful as a barrel sire.

Location: Some where I haven't left yet | I've got a Bay filly that was foaled this year by A Regal Choice out of a nice minded mare (High on a Fortune) that I have high hopes for. I think with anything it's preference. I like the lines, so I'm excited. |

RQD had 221% more performers than ARC but only 76% of the earnings. I think that is a very comparable figure. |

I'm pretty sure you missed the point. But to each their own. You can call it a fair comparison if you want. To me, it's apples to oranges. But then again, I'm looking at the $20+ million in race earners RQD sired. |

You specifically mentioned barrels and then discout the barrel stats in favor of track stats. I think you forgot your point. |

I didn't forget my point at all. My point being that RQD was rarely bred to specifically with a barrel horse in mind due to his popularity with the race people and his high stud fee.
ARC has been bred to specifically for barrel horses due to his affordable fee and the fact that the race industry is leaning away from those lines. Had the barrel racers not wanted to try RQD for barrels, do you think they would have ever given ARC a chance? Maybe a few would have, but not many.
Again, apples to oranges. But this is taking the thread way OT so peace out. I'll just stick with my 4 RQD's and enjoy them. |
