Location: East Tennessee but who knows?! | I've been going through a divorce, and I've seriously been considering moving to Oklahoma when the farm sells. I have (non-horse) friends in Tahlequah, and know a race horse trainer in Blanchard.
Right now I'm a healthcare appeals analyst and work a 2nd job waiting tables 3 nights a week. I have 4 horses and a donkey, so I'm sure it'll take 2 jobs when I move, but if at all possible I would like to get a 2nd job riding or grooming instead. I have tons of experience giving lessons and judging and breaking colts.
Any info, thoughts would be helpful. Making this kind of move by yourself is kinda stressful, so any input is welcome! |

Location: Oklahoma | We made the move to OK in 2013 and I couldn't imagine living anywhere else (except Colorado). It truly depends where in the state you are wanting to live. We found it almost impossible to find a rental with property for horses that didn't have a psychotic land lord. Because of this, we have redirected our whole program and sold all but one horse. We are boarding her. We live NW of OKC because of the great school district for our oldest daughter. There are jobs out here, depending on what you are wanting to do. Feel free to PM me anytime. I've met some great women here in OK and love it here. |

| We just bought a place a year ago near Pauls Valley. I love the location! Some of the best farriers, vets, etc within a stones throw, and there's always somewhere to go run. You're not far from Texas big, big races, and OKC isn't far either.
Would a job at an equine vet hospital suit you? Lots and lots of equine specialists in the area and they are usually needing good help.
So, so pretty! I really do like Oklahoma, I think you are thinking great! Property values aren't as high as Trxas, but do remember Ok has state income tax... |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | Used to live around the Tahlequah area. Land is cheap, property taxes are cheap, but tax on all food is a killer. Milk last week there for my brother was $3.98 a gallon PLUS tax.... Other than that, you'll love the slower paced life there. I miss it a lot. Mainly I miss my trees.... but I don't miss the taxes there at all.

Blanchard gets a lot of severe weather. We live in Yukon/Piedmont area and knock on wood.... the severe weather seems to stay south of the I-40 |

Y'all crack me up. I grew up in western Wyoming and went to college in Laramie. Trust me, Oklahoma is a cake walk. My husband grew up in Oklahoma and has never seen -20. I've hauled to jackpots in Big Piney Wyoming and Jackson Wyoming when it was -50 below zero. Oklahoma has beautiful, balmy winters comparatively!

Location: Friendswood, Texas | I have a friend who moved from southeast Texas to Oklahoma City for a career in the medical industry and she loves living there. Another family (with horses) moved from central Texas to a town a little west of Oklahoma City. They bought a house with five acres, nice barn, pipe fencing, AND a storm shelter for what we'd pay here outside Houston for just the house and land. They live in an area where it's almost what you'd call "equestrian estates" because everybody has horses and a barn. It makes for a great feeling of community. I'm sorry you're going through a divorce and I wish you strength to get through it and luck in your search for a new location. |

Didn't get it from anywhere. -5 isn't too awful compared to -20, which happens all the time where I'm from. That's all. My husband has never seen -20, which makes me chuckle. Just was making a comparison.

Yes, OK winters are very doable - same as Kansas (I'm close to the OK/KS border) - which is why I don't live ANY FARTHER north! I don't know how the peeps way up north survive! |

Location: Idaho | If you do move to Oklahoma, welcome!! I have just recently moved here myself outside of OKC, everyone has been so friendly!! One thing I had a hard time with here was finding a good place to board my boy, everywhere that I looked was extremely expensive! However, I did find an amazing barn just south of OKC (about 20 minute drive from Downtown OKC) that is affordable, and amazing! Good people too.
Wish you all the best, I saved up quite a bit before I came out here so I was just living off my savings till I picked up a job 2 months after I showed up. Good luck! |

| I live in Tahlequah. Love it over here but not many horse places for rent or sale (I'm looking). Tons of barrel races around here but everything is at least 45 minutes away. If I didn't have a set place to live I would move to the Tulsa area. Inola is a great area. A lot of barrel races around the Tulsa area (Inola, Beggs, Sapulpa, Checotah, Pawhuska, Coweta, Siloam Springs AR). This is the first year there hasn't been many open rodeos but quite a few amateur rodeos around. Riverbend at Inola is having a great fall awards series on Friday nights. Ashley Stapleton puts on amazing barrel races that get ran super fast! Inola RUC (outdoor arena) is having a fall series on Sunday.
