So I'm in the market for a new horse, and I'm running into issues when looking for what height I need. I am 6ft, so I know I need one on the taller side. My current horse is 15.3 but I have been on a few 14.3 horses and some I looked big on while the stockier ones I was told I fit well. Should I focus on finding something tall to fit me, or do I look more at their build and if they would be able to carry me regardless of their height?

Personally, I don't think that height makes that much difference. Sherry Cervi's horse is about 14-2, 14-3 and she looks pretty tall. I don't think that Lisa Lockhart's horse is real tall. I have tall horses and I don't think they are any better or worse. To me you need to have a horse that fits your style and gets the job done. That is the right horse.

I'm 5'9-5'10 and 165-170. My big horse is 15.2 and my little horse is 14.1. I have to be more aware of my position in the turns since I am tall i can throw my little horse off or bring him back over into a barrel way easier than on my big horse.

You need to get whats comfortable for you, I have seen shorter horses carry a taller person real well, as long as your a balance rider, but if your on the heavy side I would make sure they are build to carry a heaver person.

I am 5'9 and my current horse is 14.1hh. I think it is more about finding the horse that suits you not how tall they are. That being said do make sure that the horse is built to carry you comfortably.
