On our TB race mare we did a round of ulcer guard and probios at the same time. Then the vet ordered a new product out of the UK for us to try. I'd have to look to see what the name of it was. Did the trick for her. She was ate up. Has put on 150 lbs and looks great. She was grump and irritable and just nasty attitude. She is so much better now.
I use THE Equine Edge GastroPLUS. My pocket book wouldn't allow me to spend the amounts that some do to treat for ulcers. Albeit, their horses are probably worth a lot more than mine. But my $1100 gelding isn't going to get $1000+ for a round of treatment.
GastroPLUS is not only much cheaper, but it is effective. They have study photos of the difference it makes, but I have seen and felt a difference in both my mare and gelding. My mare was starting to have gate issues, chomped the bit constantly, and just looked dull. My gelding is an OTTB. I bought him sight unseen. Had him delivered. He wasn't what I got pictures of. He had dropped a good 200#. Dull. No life in his eyes. Irritable. Picked at food. They both look and feel 100% better.
If you need something more affordable than Gastrogard, there are alternatives. Everyone has their own opinion about which alternative they prefer, it really depends on the horse and what works for them. I've tried several and had the best results with Oxy-Ulcer.
THE GastroPLUS. Used it for years before becoming a distributor. Wish I had known about ulcers/THE when I was younger. My old gelding would have been a different horse.
