Does anyone have experience with this?  It is hemophilia in dogs.  I took in a rescue dachound mix 3 weeks ago and he is at the vet.  He is only 13 weeks old.  He got a nose bleed last night and it didn't quit.  The vet is running tests and giving him a transfusion.  Does anyone have long term experience?

Are you sure its not VonWillebrands? Because I have VWB. I have never had to have a transfusion, but if I do bleed I bleed for longer than anyone. Everytime I have an accident, I have to have a CT or MRI to look for internal bleeding. I should wear a medical ID bracelet. I cannot donate blood. Its a pain in the butt to have, but *knock on wood* hasn't given me any real trouble since I've been monitoring it for a few years.

It is my new puppy.  He and is a rescue so I don't know much about him except he is supposed to be dauchound/chiuaha /mini pin.  Got him at 10 weeks, never been to the vet.  He was going to go for his shots Tuesday but fortunately I have a great vet who took him immediately is doing all he can.

Hard to believe that a rescue puppy I have only had for 3 weeks could break my heart this badly.  I lost my old Springer 6 months ago and finally thought I could start again, and I failed.  My old pound puppy and I are not going to try again any time soon.  My heart can't take it.

Hubby and I found 2 Dashhounds running in the middle of a highway sunday befor last, been trying to find their owner but no luck, I have a bad feeling someone may have dumped them as one is a older felmale going blind and the other one is a mini, both are house broke and super sweet but nobody has claimed them, called vets and shelters. I wont take them to a shelter to worried they will split them up so if dont find owner they will stay here. Poor things they were coming off a creek bottom.

You did not fail. You did everything in your power.

Sometimes there is something bigger planned.

You had him for three weeks, that was three weeks of being loved and cherished, he died a happy puppy.

I am so sorry for the loss of your dog. He had 3 weeks of love by you that he wouldn't of had anywhere else. Thank God he had you even if it was for 3 weeks. Unfortunatly I know all to well about VonWillebrands. It is very common in Dobermans. It was in the 80's that Jean Dodds came up with the first blood testing for it. I had it in my dobie's. I bred my female to a carrier, not knowing he was. The 2 I kept from that litter were VWB. I had the female spayed after I found out & she almost died on the table from a simple spay. Thank God I had a great vet who saved her with a doner dog. I love the Doberman breed, but haven't had another since because you can test for it & most people don't & the reputable breeders that do, I can't see paying $2,000 for a puppy, although I understand the cost of one who has been tested for that & other genetic problems with the breed. VWD is a horrible disease & can be prevented. Again I am so sorry for your loss, but keep in mind, your puppy I'm sure was so happy to have someone show him love he had never felt before.

Im so sorry. . . . But I'm so glad you gave him three weeks of love and safety. Like others said, he was a happy puppy for that time. God bless you for caring

People are offering me more dogs that need a home but I just can't do it yet.  I have taken rescues all my life and have lost some from things like a couple who had drunk antifreeze before I got them.  I think I am getting too old to keep having heart broken.

I know the heartbreak, but, you should be so proud for doing right by these dogs. They need us,and you have stepped up and provided all the love they can handle. Its not easy, but it is very rewarding. They always love you unconditionally. Sometimes there is just nothing you can do about the disease or issues at hand.you did the best you could, after reading about it,it sounded as if he was definatly a high risk of loosing his battle, thank you for taking care of him.If you didnt love them,it wouldnt hurt so bad,but if you didnt love them, they would suffer. They need us as much as we need them.prayers for peace in your heart, for you did all you could do.
