We are good here, just a little tricky getting out of the driveway after 14 inches of rain. There are places south and east of here that have had almost 2 feet of rain!

Location: Louisiana | It is really bad. I know of several people who had to turn horses loose. And I know we all say, "Oh, they should've been prepared..." I'm telling y'all my mom lives right in the middle of this and it has NEVER flooded like this. All records have been surpassed. People who don't get water in their ditches have it in their homes.
Thankfully my mom got her horses across the river before they were trapped in. I have a friend with horses on the highway hanging out.
I have lost count of friends and family with water in their homes.
My husband and I are high and dry with available pasture space but the roads are so bad we can't help anyone. Trailer is hooked up ready to go and we're sitting on the couch. It's horrible.
My brother-in-law had to evacuate his wife and 2yo horseback through flood waters during the storm yesterday. They just purchased their new home. Their neighbor had to be rescued and nearly drowned trying to save his horses.
I know they were predicting all this rain, but nobody ever thought it would be like this.
Thank you for your kind thoughts!!
The photo is the only one my phone would load. It's Hwy 190 between the towns of Holden and Livingston, where they got over 20" of rain. The railroad tracks are to the left and are under water.
These people on the side roads do not flood. This highway does not flood.

Someone asked her whose they were...She said she had no idea there are horses everywhere. It's so sad.
I Can only hope they instinctively make it to higher ground safely. |

I sold one yesterday and when I left it was just starting to flood east of there. I bet lots of people are going to be stuck there with all the road closures, and the barns there looked pretty wet from what I saw. |

Not good, I saw where sections of I10 and 55 have completely disintegrated from all the water flowing over them. It was a good sale to go buy something though, horses overall were cheap considering what it costs to get them in the sale. |

I haven't seen the photos of 110, but the one of "i55" that has gone viral is actually a state highway between two rural towns, Hwy 10.
i55 is open all the way through currently. Some exits may be closed but the interstate is open.
He will be sleeping in his truck tonight. He had some people offer him a couple bottles of water and a snack. He isn't in danger of water where he is so he'll be uncomfortable, but ok. I feel for the people with children stuck. But rescuers have to focus on those stuck in flood waters.
And he didn't even buy a horse!! Lol. |

Where is he?
On i12 near Holden.
I actually have family right off the interstate he could've walked to/met. he's in no danger of water where he is. But he didn't want to leave his vehicle. Had the river not crested there, I would've made them make him leave. But it has crested and falling.
It's the river ahead of him a ways that has the interstate blocked.
He's only 20 minutes from home on a normal day. It just wasn't a good choice to cross the river today. |

This sounds so so similar to what we had in March here is SE AR. Unbelievable the water that rose SO fast. Our one horse went from ankle deep at lunch to almost hip deep the next morning before 10 am. Had to boat out while leading him. We thought my parent's house was able to be saved til a railroad crossing blew out and then the water was coming across fields in waves like at a beach. And their house went under. Many many prayers for everyone and their families and animals. It's a devastating situation. . . |

In March we had a "100 year flood" that broke a couple records. It got higher than it had ever been at my moms. Typically we don't even bat an eye when it floods, she's close to the river but it's never life threatening to livestock or people.
What we have now they're calling a "500 year flood". I hope I never have to witness this type of flooding again. I'm 26 and we have never even thought about leaving. In March she moved horses. Yesterday they completely evacuated.
She has the only house on her road that didn't take water.
Pretty much every person I went to HS with that still lives in town has water in their homes. The school has water, it is just really unbelievable.
Many people just moved back into their homes from March.
But in March it was mainly people right along the rivers, and they had a chance to get out, and roads were still passable.
It is insane right now. I am reading post after post on FB of horses turned out, or missing. We are hoping the waters will be down enough tomorrow to allow us to help out. We're just on the wrong side of the water to held those who need it most.
Thankful to be dry and safe, but helpless. Husband wants to take dogs and horses and round up cattle tomorrow.
Our little towns are just devastated. Entire towns, with every business flooded. Many people trapped. They've been telling them to leave all day, but most main roads have been under all day.
It's going to be a long week, and a very long recovery for many.
Thankful at this point all of our friends and family are safe and dry. Some are in shelters and alone, but they're safe. |

Yes I know parts of I10 are flooded but I honestly haven't kept up with too much out of my parishes. We're sandwiched between 3. Best of luck to them going home, stay safe!! |

Location: Louisiana | I can say local horse people have been out doing some amazing things. There was a group with trailers and boats going all over swimming horses out. They live somewhat in the thick of things and were able to maneuver around.
They saved a lot from certain death.
I know some of them put on a local rodeo series and I will be giving them my money in the future. Selfless people helping all they could.
We have some great people here in LA. |

Holding all y'all up in prayer for rains to stop and water to recede quickly. And you're right, it's the "after" that can totally take your will away. (My momma was at the despairing stage when they finally got moved back in about 3 weeks ago. I was seriously worried about her.) We went in and out our road by tractor and boat; we were blessed that my house is on a rise and got no water in it. We moved Lynn with help from friends from the hip high water and our other 4 horses were on the fish pond levees and not in water. Had no barn for a while, but they were safe. And other horse people were offering help left and right---what a community of folks, very proud to be a part of them.
Again, may God keep His mighty hand of protection on our LA friends. . . .

Holding all y'all up in prayer for rains to stop and water to recede quickly. And you're right, it's the "after" that can totally take your will away. (My momma was at the despairing stage when they finally got moved back in about 3 weeks ago. I was seriously worried about her. ) We went in and out our road by tractor and boat; we were blessed that my house is on a rise and got no water in it. We moved Lynn with help from friends from the hip high water and our other 4 horses were on the fish pond levees and not in water. Had no barn for a while, but they were safe. And other horse people were offering help left and right---what a community of folks, very proud to be a part of them.
Again, may God keep His mighty hand of protection on our LA friends. . . .
Where are you located DnL?
Thank you so much for your kind thoughts. I'm north of the flooding by about 10 miles as the crow flies. Perhaps less. We're just on a high point. I'm between the Tangipahoa and Tickfaw rivers.
My mother lives on the Tickfaw river in Livingston parish. Her house is currently IN the Tickfaw river, but still above water.
I really can't believe we just dealt with this mess in March, only to have it come back worse. March was a 100 year flood. We only thought it was stressful.
My mom nearly didn't evacuate her horses this time bc only one stall in her barn had water in March. And the barn is on the back low end of the property.
My mom has lived on the property for nearly 35 years and they have NEVER left for any amount of flooding. Even the previous records from when she was a kid.
Mother Nature is a powerful force... |

Thank you, Three4Luck. We can use all the prayers we can get. I'm separated from my son by a bunch of flood water, but I know he is safe and I have contact with them. Just can't get to him right now. It is terribly agonizing. So many people are worse off than us right now. People were stuck in their cars with babies, etc. for twenty four hours. There was just no way to move them. |

Yes they are housing for free but I've heard they're nearing capacity. I think there are close to 400 stalls, 2 arenas and back pens.
90% of the horses there are rescues with no feed, no hay, not even water buckets.
One of the local equine vets went through and scanned each animal for microchips, and taped numbers to them for later help identifying them. |

Where they live does not flood. That's why people are so caught off guard.

Location: Louisiana | I know they are needing hay more than feed. Obviously any feed is very appreciated, but there are many horses that were thin and they're scared to feed too much grain.
Problem is it's been so wet around here this summer many haven't gotten a chance to cut any hay yet. What we have left from last year for our cows wouldn't make a trailer ride bc we just keep it in the field with no cover. It would fall apart.
Lamar Dixon needs water buckets. Almost 400 horses that came in with nothing.
As the water goes down cows and horses are popping up on highways, in subdivisions, etc. It's amazing the animals that made it back home.
I know Mrs. Tanya Carlenter is headed to Lamar with supplies and to help organize. Lord knows the woman can organize lol.
Thank you all for your kindness!! |

Location: Louisiana | The donations are rolling in at Lamar!! They have a couple tons of feed, 50 square bales, and several round bales. Of course while many horses will go home quickly, they're expecting some may be a long term situation.
For some of those horses, the flood was probably the "out" they needed, as they obviously weren't being cared for prior.
They are already looking into an alternate shelter, as Lamar will have to start charging at some point, they can't stay forever.
To anyone coming or sending supplies, there are also people there, and they need basic supplies.
Toothpaste, toiletries, band aids, clothes, Advil, blankets, etc.
I'm going to go by my mom's and load up some jeans. Between her, myself, and my sister, we have a laundry room shelf FULL of jeans we no longer wear, all riding jeans and probably 5-6 different sizes.
Please, no shavings. Lamar doesn't allow outside shavings to be used. Let's not complain about that bc they have opened their facility.
Of course they have shavings for purchase, so many have donated money towards them.
They said they could use a couple stall forks also.
Just passing along some info as I see it on FB. Y'all are amazing for wanting to help. There are some amazing people in our barrel racing community!!!
I will try to check back in at some point today. But water is starting to recede in places, and animals are starting to reappear. I know places where whole herds of cows are missing.

Location: Golden Gulf Coast of Texas | They will need everything. Clothes, water non perishable food. Dog and cat food. Trying to think of what all people needed here when the Brazos flooded. Some will be without any home for awhile. There are people here still living in their cars. It's so sad. One thing we found out is don't throw anything away without writing the serial #'s down for insurance and tax write offs. Take pictures of everything while its under water and when it's not. All your possessions can be written off as a tax write off even if u don't have insurance. We didn't know that our farm and ranch policy was null and void since it was flood. So all our equipment and everything we left in the barn was not covered. But we are claiming on next years taxes. You can also file an amendment to this years taxes if you need the money sooner. I know I'm rambling but there is so much that you will need. Don't expect anything soon from FEMA we received 1 check for $22k and our renovation is expected to be over $100k. Our claim was filed at the end of June. |

We managed to get a few cows back where they belong!
It got pretty real pretty fast when we pulled up in a subdivision with mama brahmas, but hubby and bro in law got them roped and loaded. It took 3 hours to catch 3 cows lol. They didn't want to go home.
The people that lived there lost everything, but were in such good spirits and happy to see horses. I think we gave them a small break from reality.
Gotta work through Friday, but planning on heading back out Saturday. |

Since this is more wide spred with more towns are being caught up in the floods?

It is hard to compare the two. They were/are both devastating events. New Orleans had a much larger death toll during Katrina, but what is happening now is just unreal.
The flooding across several parishes is nearly incomprehensible. The parish I grew up in and my mother still lives in, 75% lost their homes. The city of Denham Springs 90%. The vast majority do not have flood insurance bc they're not in flood zones.
The amount of livestock impacted is so sad. And I have a new understanding during these events-sometimes there isn't time to save them. Water came up that fast. In places that nobody would ever imagine to flood.
Here's a crazy stat...I have a sister and two friends about to get married. Three different reception venues. All flooded out. Of course that is minimal compared to your home, which all three are also dealing with. |

Country people are awesome! Seeing so many people helping each other and not complaining but instead forging ahead is what America is all about.
The bigger question is where is Obama and what is he doing to help?

I know I shouldn't but can't help myself. . . .
These lives don't matter to him. No cops shooting "INNOCENTS" or Muslims being threatened. I don't normally say stuff like that, but my Lord how much can the good ole normal white middle class portion of this great country take lying down??? |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | Does anyone remember Bush being critized for flying over during Katrina? Liberals even bashed him for not going on the ground and helping. He eventually DID go on the ground and help with relief efforts but while he was doing a fly over to get a better knowledge of just how big of a tragedy it was, he was critized.
Obama didn't even think of doing a fly over. He's playing golf. And SHOCKER.... every liberal in America is quiet...... |

| While it is true it seems this disaster is not getting much attention from the white house..thats ok. I think the people here would rather it that way. It has really given me hope in humanity to see so many people helping each other. I live North of the flooding but here just about every bank, grocery store, school, many other businesses and numerous individuals are taking up supplies by the truck load to deliver to the flood victims. It is a beatiful thing even though the circumstances are devastating. I am proud of my state. |

This is so sad...To hear this from people that are needing help. Since it was a natural disaster and not man made all the Black lives matter people could care less whats going on in Louisiana right now. |

The President spoke with the Gov. Sunday. The Gov. declared an emergency and the President then declared. That is why FEMA is there now. It is always the Gov. who must start the process.
As for a fly over. Sure...... lets shut down all the air space for a photo op. That keeps all the first responder helicopters and drones out of the air. Because of the way the water is moving this is still a fluid event. Meaning more flooding is happening.
I have been monitoring live feed from two stations and several FB pages in order to get Pet Supplies into needed areas. The majority of folks are NOT happy with the few who are trying to make this a color issue, or a country vs. city issue.
For those actually wanting to send clothing I suggest checking with your church. Many times they coordinate with the local churches in the needed area. And please do not send money to HSUS for the animals. We learned some very hard lessons during and after Katrina. TX shelters will see a lot of animals. Protocal is to move animals already in shelters first. Then hopefully keep local animals as close to the flooded areas as possible.
And you might want to keep CA in your prayers. The most recent fire has more people displaced than the flooding.
During Katrina this board was a great source of information. And people pulled together to do some actual Great things. I was hoping for that same source of information this time.

Thanks for mentioning that! My dad lives in Apple Valley, they are not in danger but it is a little to close for comfort considering how wicked and fast moving this fire has been. |

I'm not trying to make it anyone vs anyone else. There is a big difference in this country in how certain factions are treated, but you're right, this is all about our friends in LA and the terrible situation they're facing. I am so very proud of all the folks who have stepped up and helped. Truly they're a blessing. Prayers for everyone and everything affected, as well as for the CA fire victims. May God's hand of healing and mercy touch all of them. |

karen ^^^^ THIS......I agree....keep the politics out of this thread....these people don't need that.....they need prayers ( ), supplies and monetary help....we have several churches, etc from this area headed that way with supplies, etc.
Additionally, prayers for all in CA. I have a cousin who lives in Lower Lake (the town that was destroyed). Fortunately, his place and my uncle's were just out of range of the fire but still not secure yet!

Location: In the Hills of Texas | What's happening in CA is horrible but at the end of the day, they will be covered by their insurance and will rebuild. The majority of people in LA did not have flood insurance and homeowners does not cover floods so they are the ones that are really screwed and that is why my attention is on them.
It's hard to keep politics out of things like this when it is politics that will decide how, when and how much help is going to be given. Politics and politicians all suck and they need to be all run out and start with a new slate. |

Trump did a good thing with helping and instead of the MSM reporting the truth they had to spin it and say it was nothing but a photo op. Tired of it.

Like Three 4 Luck said...don't give to the American Red Cross. What they have been doing is disgusting but that is who they are and have been. I watched them in action when my parents lost their home in a tornado in the 70's.
I dont give to the Red Cross either, dont trust what they do with the donations, I rather give to the source and know its going where I want it. After seeing where my money went after Katrina I was not a happy camper. I never got a PM on where I could send donations to someone who would make SURE money got to where it was needed most. . . . Anyone have that info? PM would be great
CCA is collecting supplies to take down there. (A list of what's needed is on their FB page) Several area churches are doing the same.
I just got that info today in a text. I don't FB---do you know when they're going down there? |

Well I missed that date of course. . . .
We were getting truck worked on today and so watched a lot of Weather Channel since that was what the repair place had on tv, and watching the scenes from Baton Rouge was heartbreaking. I believe they said 106,000 people had/were applying to FEMA and would get up to 33,000 bucks each. . . . . Some to rebuild and start their entire lives over. . . .With a whopping $33,000. I'm sure they don't care if it was Trump or the Easter Bunny there helping. As long as it was help. As long as he was there. . . |

Location: 31 lengths farms | Photo Op or not, which I dont' think it was entirely, I think it was more a "Where the H*LL is OBAMBAM??" Pretty much all that was reported was that the Governor wasn't happy with Trump coming down because it put a bigger strain on their security forces. Well good thing The Prez was just playing golf then. |

And what was being reported and the truth were two different things. I posted the video where the governor said he was very grateful for Trump coming down. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | That's interesting because as I watched the news..forget what channel , we usually have it on Fox or NBC for news that was what was reported as him having said about the trip. Him meaning the governor.

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | It just amazes me how people that are not from Louisiana are the ones bashing Trump for going there to help and support the people that are really in trouble and hurting, but the ones that are from there are so very Thankful for the support and kind words that they were needing to hear at this time. They needed this to help them keep the faith.. Thanks for posting the facebook feedback NTO |

We no longer have reporters reporting the facts and news...It's all about a political agenda. Really ticks me off... |

I noticed that too. When people go through a tough time/tragedy, they almost universally want to be acknowledged and feel like they matter. Anyone who says different is spinning an agenda. I'm sick of "reporters" covering this stuff arriving with preconceived notions and then striving to confirm their bias instead of reporting things as they actually find them. |

Location: DUMPING CATS AND PIGS IN TEXAS :) | Didn't read all the comments. Mr Trump came and he was genuine. He helped.I received a few donations and sent hay. I'm hoping to send more this next paycheck.Thank you to all who helped. Walton and Johnson are selling tshirts with the Cajun Navy design for another week. All proceeds go to flood victims and the St Landry Parish Animal Control is in need of anything you can offer...cleaning supplies, crates, hay, food for the animals, blankets.....The horses that stood in water for days look so bad. The skin is sloughing from their legs. So, many abandoned animals. It's heart breaking. |
