He is headed to the arena to learn to be a barrel horse and rope horse.
Can I ask the reasoning behind sending one to race training before barrel training? I am just curious =) He is absolutly stunning! |

He did have two outs at the track. We were hoping to get his ROM, but things did not work in our favor! We discovered an injury after his first out as a 2 year old that required surgery and rehab. He had an out this year and bled. We tried to get another out, but were unable to get him in another race. It was going to be nearly a month and a half before they started running again in OK, so we decided it was time for him to come home and begin his career in the arena.
That was probably a little confusing how I worded it! I wouldn't send one to race training if I didn't intend for them to run! There are some benefits from coming off the track, like they have been exposed to a lot and so aren't as watchy when they go new places, they know how to move out, and they are super fit! And with the right trainer they come home really broke (and I had one of those trainers!). |

Oh okay! That makes sense. Bummer he didn't get to race more but hopefully everything happens for a reason and he makes a wicked barrel horse! I have a few OTTB and a mare that was shown halter as a yearling... will definitely say they are well exposed and much easier to season. |

From my dealings with TP on this board, I don't think he could have gone to a better place! She's seems quite the lady. . . .
Good luck to you and Vinny in his new career(s)

Thank you!
It's nice to share a good trainer story with all of the negative ones we hear about all the time. I only have positive things to say about Total Performance! I was pretty nervous sending him since we rarely send one out to be ridden, and it was our first experience with race training. No complaints here, although Vinny probably wishes he was back in their barn getting pampered! |
