Location: Ava, Missouri | Has anyone used essential oils for suspected ulcers in horses? Don't have the money at the moment to spend on a full course of omeprazole to treat. Curious if the essential oils really work on them? |

Essential oils are pricey as well....and no research to prove they will do anything other than smell nice on your horse.

Location: North Dakota | I had to look up a Zyto Scan....Honestly, why not google home ulcer medications for horses and see what you come up with? There are several ways to slow down the severity-until you have the money to actually treat.....at the very least try some aloe vera juice and maalox. |

You need to slow down-don't think your "personality" is understood by all.....I've found that laughing emoticons tend to get people in an uproar. Therefore I shall not use one here. Thanks for the chuckle this morning. |

Agree, you can order ulcergard from valley vet-exact same ingredients as gastrogard-per my vet dose at 1/2 a tube for 14 days. A 6 pack is $172-about what the oils will cost you and the ulcegard works. I brought one home last week that had been at the trainers for 3 months. He was not eating good, 2 doses of ulcergard and he was back eating.

Where did you get your pricing? Amazon sells a 15mL bottle of DigestZen by Doterra for $34.10. With two to three drops on their feed every day this bottle will last a month or so. It lasts that long with me anyway. |

Sounds like a bargain to me. Kinda like horse hair analysis. Just think of all the cures....ulcers, behavioral issues, liver, kidney, lung function, and all the toxins you can eliminate. You can customize your EO regimen and feed program for $150 (plus cost).
Who can I contact for this consultation? |

Location: North Dakota | I love using essential oils on myself and my horse when needed, but for ulcers I would go straight to Omeprazole or Ranitidine for treatment, as there are scientifically proven studies shown they heal ulcers. As much as I love the oils, they would not be my "go to" when trying to heal an ulcer ridden horse.

Normally suggestions of quackery are harmless, i.e. hair analysis, animal comunicators and what not.
But this advice is not only dangerous it's irresponsible. BHUSA would be proud. |

But this advice is not only dangerous it's irresponsible. BHUSA would be proud. Laugh if you will at "Quackery" but if it works it works. I'm not trying to "sell" anyone anything. Doterra doesn't even push sales. Once you try them, they practically sell themselves. You don't need a membership, you don't have to pay per month for autoships you don't even have to buy a kit. Doterra sells on Amazon for cheaper so I figured I would help those looking for it. Just know that my horse responds well and it's cheap and since the OP was interested I figured I would give accurate information about pricing. I would however like to know your scientific facts regarding your highlighted comments. As far as I am concerned, DigestZen works for me and for my horse and that is all that matters. My family and I love using oils for any and all things.
I would like to add that I use the oil for maintence. Not for treatment. I believe this was misunderstood.

This sounds really expensive. I buy all of my oils via Amazon or at the health food store here in town. Doterra does sell kits but you don't have to buy from the website. They sell on Amazon for much cheaper. |

I ordered some GastroPlus from Krystal a couple of months ago. Paid roughly $8 for shipping, considering the package size, I don't think it could have been any cheaper.
It didn't work for my horse. She promptly refunded my money, no questions asked. |

Same here, Digestzen from doterra is the way to go. I would also use Aloe vera Juice as well. |

| Here's what I did: Stop spending money on grain if you're feeding grain. Use that money to buy 10 tubes of UlcerGard. Treat for ulcers and start feeding alfalfa and rice bran instead.
They've been off the grain for over a year and have never looked or felt better. |

Just do this ^^^
works well - you don't have quackery behind it and the results will speak for themselves.
Oh yeah and the science is sound ... nothing like trials and stuff to justify sound science.
BONUS - Wyoming Barrel Racer is pretty awesome to work with |

Just a heads up, mine didn't even do well with the beet pulp. I went to straight alfalfa pellets (don't have alfalfa hay...yet), top dressed with Excel Digestive supplement and Platinum CJ.
I know you said you didn't have a lot of cash flow to stick towards it, but I HIGHLY recommend the Excel. |

| Ranitidine is cheap compared to omeprazole and is what I used. I think it was $42 a bottle which lasted approximately 10 days. I treated for 30 days 10 pills, 3x daily or you can do 15 pills 2x daily,if your schedule won't allow 3x. Chopped them up threw them in with his renew gold and oats and he ate them. I slowly weaned him off ranitidine after 30 days reducing dosage and frequency to 2x daily. During this time I added herbs as well to help him even further. I've concocted my own blend and he's been doing well for almost 2 yrs. It's not just about treating the ulcers, it's about management of the horse for long term results. You have to know stress triggers ie grains, stalling, trailering etc and make sure your taking steps to keep them from flaring.
I'm in no way bashing anyone who uses essential oils bc I believe aromatherapy works for some things but to think this cures the ulcers is to good to be true. I'd challenge you to get your horse scoped if your so confident. |
