Just curious, if any of you moms have any positive inducement stories. I have 5 days left to have this baby and OB wants me to think about picking a day if I havent had it by the beginning of the week. First time mom and was really wanting things to happen on there own.
Thanks.

keeping fingers crossed for you! Can't help you with being induced. I had my daughter via c-section and have my second c-section scheduled for September 13th.

I was induced a week early. I checked in the hospital at midnight. They gave pitocin sometime in the wee morning hours . The meds gave me cramps similar to menstral that intensified over the next couple of hours. (this was the worst part but not bad) and by 7:30 I was needing my epidural. After that it was a PIECE OF CAKE. Thank gosh for drugs lol. had my daughter at 12:20p.m. Didnt feel a thing.

Prayers for you and good luck. Dont worry.

I got preeclampsia and had to be induced on the day I went for just a regular checkup visit (I wasn't ready to hear it and was nervous) I ended up being in labor (if you want to call it that) for almost 18 hours and never dialated past a 1. I basically had period cramps all night long is what it felt like to me. Doc came in and said I could keep trying, but I was over it and opted to just have a c-section which was a blessing. She had the cord wrapped around her neck and a ginormous head so I was going to have to have one anyways after a long labor if I had kept trying. For my second, doc asked what I wanted to do and I looked at the calander and said this day looks good for another c-section. My sister was induced with both of her kids and popped them out within 12 hours. Just depends on your body. Good luck, you will do great!

My daughter was induced, the dr wanted to induce 2 weeks earlier but she refused.  No baby, so I "encouraged" her to be induced, ended up having a whopper 10 lb baby boy and had to have a C-section after labor stopped when he got stuck in the birth canal.  Her doctor had been telling her he was going to be big and she needed to deliver.  He was a healthy robust baby and may have been in danger if left to cook a little longer as nutrients for the baby start depleting.

Medically necessary inductions are a blessing.  That said, I was induced with my first and it was not a good experience at all.   Dr scared me into it with talk of being 2 hours from the hospital and things going wrong, but the process of induction and resultant unnatural labor precipitated more interventions...I vowed not to do it again. Went into labor naturally with my 2nd and that labor was SO MUCH EASIER.

I tyoed a reply and decided to delete as it was not a postive story. Op, if you saw, I apologize. Let me try again ;) I was induced at 36 weeks with my first after my water broke. I wanted a natural childbirth so i went without the epidural for 13- 14 hrs which, yeah.....lets put it this way, once i got the epidural, it was truly a piece of cake. I literally slept for 2.5 hrs til they woke me up, said i was dilated to a 10 and we were just waiting on the doctor to finish a c section so we could deliver baby. Once i had the epidural it was truly a breeze. Good luck to you!

Twisted K, Im due with baby number 2 the same day as your scheduled c section :)

Thanks gals. She is letting me go past my due date and told me if I felt strong enough about it she would let me go 5 days over, but she really hates things to last that long. In her experience she sees nothing good happen after 41 wks. I've been measuring big for the last 3 months, so she is concerned I may have a big baby, and I do have a small frame, 5'2", 115 prepregnancy. I've read all kinds of stories (which I prob shouldn't be), some saying to wait, that our bodies are made for this. Others saying that going a week to 2 weeks over could end up in c section just because baby is big. I guess Im just kinda stuck, hoping baby will come this week. I hate to end up with a csection just because I was to stubborn and let baby get too big, but would hate to end up with one just because im rushing, which I guess I wouldn't be rushing if I wait till after 40 wks. And I know a csection isn't the worse thing in the world, just wanting to experience the natural birth.
I wasn't planning on an epidural...but keeping an open mind about it, as I've heard that is what it takes for some to dilate.

I induced a week early by choice. Went in at 5am, started pitocin at 7, had an epidural about 15 minutes later because I'm a pansy and didn't want to wait to know what labor felt like. Was in labor 11 hours, slept for 10 hours and 45 minutes of it. They woke me up when it was time to push, and everything went well. Back on a horse 2 weeks later, and at a barrel race 5 weeks later.

I'll be terrified to NOT induce next time. I like having a plan (or at least thinking I do)

I was scheduled for an induction with my first and ended up going into labor on my own the day before. My second was an induction. I was very dehydrated when I went in, so they ran fluids before starting my induction. Both of these labors and deliveries went pretty smooth, had an epidural with both. Baby number three was not so easy! Again I was scheduled for an induction, started have contractions the night before, and they were 2 minutes apart when I checked in. So they didn't treat me as a normal induction since I was already in labor. 47 hours after I first started having contractions my daughter was delivered via C-section. Turns out she was stuck because her arm was up with her hand behind her head. Three totally different labors and deliveries, and I have three healthy children.

My suggestion is to do what you feel comfortable with. Obviously take your doctors recommendations, but if given an option do what feels right to you. Congrats on your little blessing, most rewarding thing you'll ever do in your life.

I had mine at 41 weeks and 3 days. I am 5 foot 1 and dad is 6 foot 6 or 7. Baby was 8 pounds 8 ounces and was 21.5" long. I had her naturally at home with a midwifery team and doula. She came down the birth canal with her head side ways. In a hospital I would have had to have a c section but my midwife put me into a different position and baby turned on her own.  Best birth experience I could have ever wished for my 1st go round.

If no issues, I would say go natural.
I was induced due to my age at the time...37.
I would probably have gone natural in a few more days anyway.
When the induced, I was supposed to get a epidural, however, the ob nurse had my contractions coming so fast that I couldn't lay still long enough for the needle.
After it was all said and done, the doc thought I had had an epidural and reamed the nurse for not having my contractions timed right.
I felt like I had been hit with a freight train.  The actual delivery wasn't bad, but the after affects of the drugs kicked my butt.

I was induced with all 3 of mine and for me it's the only way to go. My labored were long and hard but I think would be equally as hard if not induced. I had a pleasant experience all 3 times and would do it again if we were to have more. I'm a control freak and not knowing causes me serious anxiety. I want to go in on my own measure and things be calm cool and collected. My 2nd delivery was a little scary because my daughter had the cord around her neck but that wasn't the fault of induction and would have happened if I went on my own! Pick your day and go for it!!

First child was natural and second induced due to distance from hospital and how fast the first delivery went.

Showed up for the induction and had to wait for the doctor to okay the suppository because I was having contractions. They inserted the suppository and a few hours later broke my water, 1.5 new baby. Total time about 5 hours with the last 1.5 being delivery.

No problems

I just had my first on July 20th I'm 5 5 and 115lbs prepregnancy. I didn't want to be induced either but did by DR. recommendation at 41weeks 2 days and delivered a healthy 8lb 9oz baby boy. I was induced at 8am, broke my water at noon and delivered at 1:55AM overall was a very pleasant experience. I think he would have came on his own before the weekend. I was already having contractions when I came in and didn't even realize that's what it was LOL I thought it was him moving. Good luck im sure it will be fine !

I guess my advice would be to RELAX and trust that nature will take it's course.

My doctor also had me thinking about an induction date if I missed my due date, but thankfully my water broke at 5:30 PM on my due date and she arrived at 4:49 AM the next morning. This was my first baby. Two days before my water broke I was ZERO dilated. (I had a coworker, also first time mom, be dilated at 3 cm for about 3 weeks before her baby decided to come ... so being dilated really gives you no information, haha.)

My doctor told me most first time moms tend to go 40 weeks or more, so she was willing to let me go 1 to 2 weeks after my due date as long as everything was looking good. But of course, baby came on her own.

I understand why they want to do inductions if you go too long after your due date. The placenta was really only designed for about 40 weeks and you could risk having a less than adequate supply to baby if you go to long. But ...... remember ..... the due date is just an estimation!! Especially if you were not really careful of keeping track of your periods, the doctors is just making an educated guess.

Also, the weights on ultrasounds can be wrong too ... sometimes by a pound or two. That makes a huge difference if they are a pound or two off!

Medically necessary inductions are important and have their place. But I think sometimes it is really better to let nature take it's course if you can, because nature knows when that baby is supposed to come out.

I've had a couple friends who have NOT had good results with induced labor. One of them the induction didn't even WORK. They finally sent her home after nothing was happening, and baby came by herself (natural labor) 2 weeks later. Perfect size and perfectly healthy.

Another friend was in labor for 36 hours with induction and pushed for almost 2 1/2 hours. Was absolutely awful for her. She wished she hadn't tried to "force it" and would have simply waited longer for baby to come on her own.

And yet another friend showed up for her induction, only to be sent home because the hospital labor and delivery were full and had no room with them. So they had to be rescheduled. (She did, have a good induction labor ... but had to be a couple days later than scheduled.)

It's your body and your decision to make, but I'd go as long as you can without it and give baby a chance to come on their own.

I was told that this is actually quite common; about 40% of births.

Not that it's not "scary" but it's a pretty normal thing for the delivery team to see.

its not very common for a baby to come on the due date. My first and middle were both "late" the middle was an induction at 2 weeks late. Of all 3 labours and births the induction was by far the best.

I would not stress too much just take it day by day, not that its easy when your are so eager to meet the little one!
Best of luck to you.

I actually just read a statistic that 62% of non induced babies are born within a week either way of their due date. Hang in there. Hooefully baby will decide to come within the week after so you dont habe to be induced. :)

I'm from Canada and they seem to induce much less up here and never before your due date (medical complications aside). I was put on the induction list 10 days after my due date and went in to be induced 13 days after my due date. He was born 14 days after my due date and was a healthy 9 lb 2oz. I felt like I had been pregnant forever by the time he was finally born.

I had the same experience as most and eventually went with an epidural. Once that was in it was easy. Once I hit 10 cm I had 20 mins of pushing and he was delivered.

Good luck with your delivery :)

My dr said it's normal for first time moms to go over thier due date. I was a week over on my first and I was induced. I decided against an epidural or any pain meds and my labor was 14 hours long and the pain was constant from beginning til end with no "natural" breaks bc of the pitocin. We had an amazing nurse that helped me thru the pain and the only bad thing that happened is when she broke my water, there was meconium but when my son was born there were no complications. On my 2nd, she was at 5 days over due at my dr appointment and we had planned to induce at 7 days and had her at 6 days over when she decided to come on her own. Again, when my water broke, there was meconium. My little girl was born within 3 hours from water breaking to birth but she had meconium aspiration and was kept in NICU for almost a week. No epidural or pain meds with her either and I honestly think it hurt worse than when I was induced (probably bc she came so fast). The main thing I would worry about with going over is the meconium aspiration, but that's a 50/50 shot. Other than that, I had no complications. I always said I would rather the baby come on it's own but I would listen to your dr and talk about the pros and cons of inducing.
