Just like the title says. By a son of DTF out of a daughter of Paddys Irish Whiskey. Sounds like a cool cross to me, but would like opinions.

I'm not a fan of Paddy's Irish Whiskey. All the ones I've been around have been fractious. JMHO

In theory this sounds like a great idea...but I would be worried about what sort of mind your colt would have. And a good minded horse means A LOT to me. JMHO

I thought the same thing. I love the cow/run, but this seems like a gamble mind-wise.

This! I wouldn't try it. I don't like the kind of mind I am afraid you would end up with.

Agreed. Haven't had good experiences with Paddy's colts or even grandget of Paddy. The name "Cybil" comes to mind.

Good advice, good advice, thank you! I've not had experience with DTF's or Paddy horses either one. I know DTF's are really popular, so I would love to try one, but I'm unsure if all crosses are good, as with any bloodline.

We never encountered a one talking to the breeders/trainers/riders when we were in TX. They were not well liked and most are found up north where they can be ranched on. They apparently need the hard work.
His full brother Grays Starlight was just the opposite. His babies we worked with quite a bit and were old souls. Born broke. He was one of the first to die of West Nile when it was really killing off the horses yrs ago.
Their brother Gallo Del Cielo had mixed reviews. I only had a chance to start his daughters and they were very VERY fragile minded. Fractious and I was not a fan. Never messed with a colt/gelding by him myself, but word in the barn is they were much more user friendly.

Isn't crossing a DTF with a Firewater Flit or Frenchman's Guy suppose to help with the brain?

6666's had a few several years ago by PIW and out of big name racebred mares like Down With Debt that were consigned to Heritage Place. They sold pretty well, I thought. I wasn't there but had someone look at them for me and he said they were okay but not super pretty.

They disappeared and we didn't see younger siblings show up in HP catalogs.

That tells us something, I think? If those colts were big winners, I assume we would have seen more?

Personally, I guess I'll mostly stick with the good minded lines of racebreds with an occasional dose of barrel breeding. I have a really nice cowbred now-gelding in my pasture. haha!

That's not to say others don't get great results with cowbreds . . . we just love our racebreds.

Sabra O'quinn won I think it was Old Fort Days on PIW a few years ago. Not sure what the dam was. I have a grand daughter of PIW out is a Sunfrost mare. Super sweet filly. Haven't started riding her yet... We will see if she is broncy with both Sunfrost and PIW.
