Has anyone ever used a gps app on their phone to clock their horses speed while breezing them? Even better if its on a barrel pattern? I know pure speed is not everything, but barrels is a speed event.to it does help. Those of you who have clocked their horses, what was the speed?

We've used speed guns but all that really tells you is how fast your horse can run once it gets going. Not how fast it can run on a short distance (like across an arena) or how fast it can turn.

One of the fastest barrel horses we had was one of the slowest clocked horses on the flat. She gets in and out of the barrels faster then most so she makes all her time up there but in a flat race she would never win.

I use equitrack on my phone and my mare got up to 39 mph in a bean field when I hit the oh **** button. I looked at my phone after and couldn't believe it. I only let her go about 200 yds and never even pushed.

My daughter and I use GPS while breezing but not in the pattern.  I haven't thought about it.  I use My tracks and my kiddo uses Equitrack.  I clocked my mare at 39 mph.

I use Equitrack and have gotten mine up to 42mph but that was on a track.  Normally when I breeze him in the pasture it's around 35 - I have to have ALOT of room to stop him from that speed lol.  I haven't thought to use the app when running the pattern but I usually don't have my phone on me at a race.

The top speed my horse has clocked on EquiTracks was 37 mph on a flat straightaway. Normally, at the local jackpots he is 2D or 3D but he has made two very nice 1D runs (and won money). At the bigger shows (300+ entries) he's normally 3D. His personal best at an amateur rodeo would have won the 2D, if they did the D's! Based on Interval Timing, we lose our speed between 1st and 2nd and between 2nd and 3rd, so I have been trying to get him to fire better out of the turn.

I think they were gunning horses at the American on the run home from 3rd. I don't quite recall but I think the fastest one that was gunned was about 33 mph?

Agree that speed is helpful, but those 3 turns make a difference. May not be the fastest on a straightaway, but can make up the time in the turns.

My friend uses some app on our trail rides, usually to track how far we go........ One time she decided to "race" my 7 yr old daughter, they got up to 30 MPH.
The app she has has a part where you can see where at in the ride you went what speeds and for how long, elevation climb, resting time.

I used SnapChat to track mine once. Recorded us breezing through a field. Once we got stopped I swiped through the filters until I got to the speed one

I think I'm right there with you.. I downloaded the app and I am interested to see how fast my mare goes... I dont think we are anywhere near 25 let alone 30 that is for sure.

Or maybe I should call the guy that told me that's what his gun read and have him callibrate it bahahahaha. I highly doubt she set a record. More likely the dude was out to lunch lol.

I use Equitrack too... my old gelding hits 30 easy not pushing out in the open but I decided to turn it on during my run one night... a whopping 19!  No wonder our time is so slow.

My guess is it was 51 kph, rather than 51 mph, since you live in Canada. That translates to about 32 mph.

I don't know how you guys can go 39mph. My mare hit 30mph yesterday and I stopped pushing cause I felt it was too fast ( I am a wuss apparently- it feels way faster on a horse than an atv or sled)
