What are Things to consider when offering stallion service to the public? What are the pros and cons of live cover, cooled shipped, frozen shipped, and ect? What about keeping your stud with a breeding farm? I have always been curious of this side of the industry.

I haven't done it yet but I have bred to studs that were at breeding farms. The breeding farms or vet clinics that have stallions stay there are for people that don't want the hassle or send out a lot of semen. This is usually the big money stallions because it gets expensive quick! Live cover is obviously the cheapest option, but also the most dangerous for the stud. Not only can he contract STDs just like ppl can, but mares are sometimes very mean and uncooperative and can injure the stud. Frozen is usually only needed if the stud is super nice or getting older and quality goes down, or the owner just wants to make sure there is plenty if something were to happen to him or something like that. Cooled and or shipped is the norm if standing to the public since even if you are low key it is still the most effective method and costs can stay lowish if you have a vet close and can haul back and forth.
eta: this is all just what I have seen so someone please chime in if any of this is a little off. :)

I am not sure about barrel studs but I know in the cutting industry there are a lot of fees associated with nominations and such. Each year you have to pay a certain about so that the foals qualify for nomination. There is also a lot that goes into advertisement. Just a little from the business side :)
As far as the breeding side, if the stud is still competing most owners will just take him to the breeding farm to be collected and then store the semen.
