Ladies I need help. I don't like my current makeup and I need something new but don't want to spend over $20 so I will be primarily shopping at Walmart lol. I am currently using mary Kay and hate it. Sorry Mary Kay. But it sinks into my pores and wrinkles (Im only 27) and I didn't think that should happen. I also like makeup that has some spf in it since im outside so much but I need something smooth and sweat proof at least for a little while. Any advice? Thanks :)

To shrink pores and reduce redness....use pepto-bismol (not even kidding), it actually works.

You'll have to spend a bit more than $20 for a good foundation, I use younique. I've heard really good things about MAC makeup as well.

Im open for $25 if it is really good lol.

I don't use a lot of makeup. I don't like looking totally different so I don't cake it on. I too sometimes just use powder or a BB cream but I do like to wear regular stuff sometimes during the weekend and always to work.

I've switched to Rimmel stay matte foundation, primer and powder. The foundation is like $6, the primer is $8 and the powder is $5. I love it and it looks and lasts as well as the higher end stuff like Urban Decay or Sephora products. And you can get all this at walmart.

I"m sorry you aren't happy with your MK - my first question to you would be - since I am  MK consultant - and it was always my focus,
is what is your skin care program to help reduce your pore size and to help soften the lines?   Skin care is the canvas upon which all the makeup sits -  MK does have a moisturizer w/ SPF in it, in case you have not been told.

What type of skin do you have?

you get what you pay for. That being said. I use the clinique skin care system (soap, eye makeup remover, clarifying lotion, moisturizer). I also use Clinique foundation (Stay true - oil free) and loose powder. I use MAC blush and clinique and bare minerals eye shadow. Eyeliner is Maybeline and mascara is Clinique. My makeup lasts me about 5-6 months before I have to replace. Very little break outs. It's worth paying for quality make up.

Are you looking for a liquid type foundation or just a powder foundation?
I use a daily moisturizer with spf 15 or more. I rotate between the neutrogena healthy skin and the Olay regenerist.
I use the clinique invisible blend powder and have for many years. I'm blessed with good skin genes and don't need coverage. It's lightweight and doesn't "settle"
It's approximately 22-24 dollars whether you get the compact or loose. I get the loose and it lasts for a long time.

I have the Primer with SPF in it, but when I use that on top of my moisturizer it starts to like peel off. I wash my face at night and then use a clean and clear 2 in 1 moisturizer and then I use a night cream. Then in the mornings I use the clean and clear again and a day cream. I have normal skin I guess, it never gets dry (since I keep it moisturized) and it has never really been oily.

I LOVE BareMinerals. Yes, it's pricey but a little bit goes a long way and I buy makeup maybe twice a year. Great for skin...if you accidently sleep in it, no big deal. Not greasy or pore clogging.

I've used Clinique for 13 years and love it. I thought I'd change things up and try Younique (I liked it but didn't love it) so I'm back to using Clinique. I have very sensitive skin so good quality makeup is a must for me. I also think a primer is important.

I am fixing to start using a different day cream so maybe it wont peel off like the other stuff I was using and I can use my primer. Is there anything else I should be doing to minimize pores? My whole family has huge pores so idk if there is really anything that can be done about that :(

What kind of Clinique do you use? I had some Clinique one time but I don't remember what kind it was but I didn't love it. Of course the girl that helped me buy it put it on me and it looked good but when I got home I realized it was because she used it like icing on a cake lol so it didn't look as good when I did it.

What the heck is considered a primer? Sorry, I have no make up or hair skills. I gave up on make up years ago. In between the wrinkles (which just crack and look worse with make up) and sweating it off, why bother? Kinda wish I had more skills and knowledge as I now have age spots on my face that no amount of sunscreen or lightening product will get rid of. And now I read that you need to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours to keep it effective. Who can do that !!??

So I go through life au natural. Sigh... Getting old is not for the weak hearted...

I would encourage you to seek out a dermatologist. I started using one a year ago, I do peels about 3 times a year depending...at 65. bucks each, and I use very little foundation. I really only use it because of the sunscreen in it. Best money I have ever spent!

Ok I use 3-4 different foundations depending on what I'm doing my face for. I don't like to use the high dollar stuff when I know I'm going to be sweating a lot. For school I just use BB cream, etc.

A good Walmart foundation... Revlon Colorstay. I use the one for combination/oily skin. This stuff is ok if you put it on with your hands. BUT, if you know how to use a beauty blender sponge, it's awesome!!

I can put it on in the am, go to work. Get home and bathe horses in the 100 heat, sweat profusely. Go inside, blot dry, apply a dab of powder, and head to a rodeo looking like I have pretty, fresh makeup.
Just never rub your sweat off, let it drip...eewwwww I know hahaha. Pat dry!!

I also use the IT set. It is $50 I think. But it's a seven piece set; concealer, brow pencil, mascara, "foundation", and and awesome "blurring" powder that makes skin look so smooth. And you can also pick and choose what you want, to spend less. It's a million times worth the money.

Conturing started off as being for drag queens LOL. My uncle's GF is a makeup artist for the TV show VEEP. She said all of that conturing going on started with drag queens. She said to keep it simple with a little bronzer/highligher but not to go crazy with 15 different colored concealors.

If you're still really into conturing or wanting to, because I'll admit I still wanted to see the difference (at least) as well. There are a lot of different techniques for different face shapes. First you would want to find the shape of your face & go from there. Lots of tutorials on YouTube/Pinterest.

I just tried the new Loreal Infallible Pro Glow - Usually I just wear a tinted moisturizer but when I want to look a little more presentable I really like it.  A little goes along way in coverage.

I just bough this and love it too! I'm not usually much into liquid foundations and have several high end brands, but this stuff rocks! Oh and it doesn't sink into my fore head wrinkles! The elf buffing brush works fantastic with it.

You should always wear a separate spf. The Spf in any makeup is not strong enough to really work. I wear an spf 30 moisturizer everyday.

I have always "contoured" with my bronzer. Basically you just place it in the hollows of your cheeks, down the sides of your nose, temples, and chin. You can use a fluffy brush and it won't look so harsh. I don't use any concealer under my eyes, it just looks worse. I finish with a pretty shimmer highlight on my upper cheek bones and brow bone. Brows are easy! Just use a pencil and lightly outline your natural shape and use small strokes to fill them in. Comb and done!

I have this pic where I am turning the 2nd barrel and my Mary Loumanizer highlight is on point! LOL

This is so true! I was a competitive dancer for 20 years and own my own studio now and we have been contouring for YEARS!!!! But it was designed to make the face look more chiseled from far away or under stage lights. SO, I agree...find one good bronzer and one good highlighter! It keeps it much easier and then you don't actually look like a drag queen in everyday life
Layering make up like this will make you look OLDER when up close! Keep it simple!!

sponge to put makeup on. - you can either throw it away or good sponges you can wash and let air dry .  never had a problem.

To help minimize your pores - you can use a masque 2 x a week -  after cleansing your skin you use a freshner w/ a cotton ball that will help tighten and help minimize pores.  Remember this won't be an overnight fix - perhaps look at changing your cleansing products. lightening up on moisturizer during the day - and looking at different foundations - I use the MK foundation and then finish with the mineral foundation pwder.

good luck!

Beauty blenders are helpful. Sometimes I think sponges absorb too much of the make up.

Try NYX products from Ulta. They are at a low price point but a very nice quality. They do not test on animals either, which I love. What kind of coverage do you prefer? Light, medium/full?

From walmart I have used Loreal Paris Infallible Pro Matte foundation and liked it. It has staying power. I was also a fan of Neutrogena Healthy Skin.

Now I buy higher end cruelty free makeup (Mostly from Ulta). It is not all expensive. Check them out online.

I do like Bare Minerals (be sure to buy a primer to put on before your foundation. It makes it last longer and go on smoother) A finishing spray can also prolong wear. You can buy these in all different price points.
I currently use Born This Way foundation by Too Faced. Its $38 but the quality is very nice. Annd I make it last a while.

For those of you looking to Contour.. I am adding link to a cheaper contour palette from ulta that you can try to get you started. I have it and am impressed with the quality/price. Im also adding a link to a video to show you how to do it.

Any advice? Thanks :)

If you're wanting to look at drugstore makeup exclusively, and you want a matte finish I would look at the maybelline fit me matte+poreless or the loreal infallible matte finish. those are good. I love the wet n wild primer or the rimmel 5 in 1. maybelline fit me power really sets foundation well too.

I love my Mac foundations They have so many different coverage levels ranging from BB to full coverage. They are slightly higher than Walmart brands but they really last ad wear well.

rodeoveteran - 2016-09-01 9:13 AM What the heck is considered a primer? Sorry, I have no make up or hair skills. I gave up on make up years ago. In between the wrinkles (which just crack and look worse with make up) and sweating it off, why bother? Kinda wish I had more skills and knowledge as I now have age spots on my face that no amount of sunscreen or lightening product will get rid of. And now I read that you need to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours to keep it effective. Who can do that !!?? So I go through life au natural. Sigh... Getting old is not for the weak hearted...

Primer goes on before your foundation. It helps smooth your lines and pores so your foundation will look better.

I use the Loreal true match powder. Its a pressed powder that does a bit of concealing as well. No greasy look like I get with a liquid base. $8 and its idiot proof.

I spent 5 years of my life spending God knows how much trying different make-up and SPF combos (I'm 34 now, oily skin).   I cannot live without:  Elta MD UV clear sunscreen, Retin-A (you can get this at the Dermatoligst via perscription, your health insurance may pay for it.  Awesome for wrinkles and age spots)
Foundation:  Este Lauder Double Wear Corrective.  I take a dab of this and mix it with suncreen, then dab some Neutrogena mineral sheers pressed powder over.   The Estee Lauder will last a year- little bit goes a LONG way.  And it will STAY- swimming/sweating/anything.

I use the Rodan and Fields mineral peptides. It's a light coverage that is not water soluble so it does not sweat off and does not settle into fine lines. It has a 20 SPF.

turtleaut - 2016-09-01 5:59 AM I just tried the new Loreal Infallible Pro Glow - Usually I just wear a tinted moisturizer but when I want to look a little more presentable I really like it.  A little goes along way in coverage.

LOVE this stuff.  Not even that dewy and lasts all day.  This is my favorite drugstore foundation.

If you are using a water based foundation that doesn't contain silicone, the Nivea sensitive skin men's shaving balm in the white glass bottle is a great primer that helps your foundation stay on.

Make sure you use a primer so it doesnt sink into your pores. No matter what foundation you use, you should use a primer.

I use a primer and my powder foundation still "finds" my lines unfortunately! I use Bare Minerals and really like it.

I used to have HUGE ugly pores had for years... tried every kind of skin care product out there.. went to a derma.. tired all methods... and pore reducers.
I FINALLY am noticing smaller pores after starting Rodan and Fields skin care
I use Mary Kay BB Cream as it is light and hides my pores I top it off with Mary Kay loose powder
If you don't care for your Mary kay get with your rep and discuss your concerns they will help you find what works for you.

After YEARS of using Bare Minerals, I actually switched to Cover Girl and like it WAY more and it's WAY less expensive. I use the stuff that comes in a compact that is mixed with Oil of Olay. I actually got compliments when I switched. I think high-end make up is WAY over-rated. There are a FEW things on the high end side I use - like a primer from Smashbox but mostly I have switched to the el-cheapo products!

Clnique!!! I have tried every dang thing under the sun(except the R&F) and Clinique is still the only moisturizer/ cleaner / primer I use. I have used the Younique....its very heavy and definitely covers, but too expensive for this girl. The mascara was great when it first came out but they have changed the formula and it does not wear the same.I LOVE their liners and shadows.

I've used Clinique for 13 years and love it. I thought I'd change things up and try Younique (I liked it but didn't love it) so I'm back to using Clinique. I have very sensitive skin so good quality makeup is a must for me. I also think a primer is important.

What kind of Clinique do you use? I had some Clinique one time but I don't remember what kind it was but I didn't love it. Of course the girl that helped me buy it put it on me and it looked good but when I got home I realized it was because she used it like icing on a cake lol so it didn't look as good when I did it.

Depends if I want thick coverage or light coverage. Superbalanced for lighter cov. And Beyond Perfecting for thick cov. :)

If you like some things about Mary Kay try adding the foundation primer underneath the foundation. It prevents your makeup from sinking in your pores and wrinkles. I like the cream to powder foundation over the liquid

First off, please do not ever let anyone tell you that you cannot get great makeup for a great price. I have a good mixture of high end and drugstore, but every product I use is outstanding,

I highly suggest anything from the maybeline fit me line. All of maybelines concealers are amazing as well. The better skin(blue tube), fit me(black lid), and  age rewind(red lid) are my favorites. The fit me powder foundation is also very nice. Also try the baby skin pore primer before putting any makeup on, this will work wonders and it is great for filling pores.

Loreal has great foundations, the lumi foundation is good if you have dry skin, the pro matte foundation is good for oily skin.

Milani also has an amazing foundation called conceal & perfect but it is FULL coverage.

Go to the makeup brush section and find the real techniques brand. They have a beauty spone that works great. To use it, run it under water and squeeze until the sponge puffs up all the way then dry the sponge off so it is only a little damp. lightly pat in concealer and foundation with this. You can also use this to set powder on your face. As far as drug store brushes I wouldn't stray away from real techniques. If you want cheap quality brushes you will need to order them online from Morphe(they are the best).

NYC also has a nice bb cream and so does loreal

Test a little on the underside of your wrist. If it matches there it should match your face. Some people like to go one shade darker than what matches the wrist.

I match to my neck.  Sometimes you can hold it up and see what matches best.  It is a struggle.  I go to Ulta where they take returns.

I'm really happy with Younique.  Remember that the type of product (more so than brand of product) makes a big difference in your results for each person and skin type.  I use different types for winter than I do for summer, etc.  And a good primer does wonders!
