| I am looking to purchase my first diesel pickup. I am currently pulling an 18' steel 3-horse with a 4' short wall that my '01 (gas) Chevy get's pretty bogged down with. That being said, I've ALWAYS been a Chevy girl and had very, very good luck with them. I don't know that I could live with myself if I bought a Ford (just how I was raised), but I've heard nothing but good things about the 6.7s that are out there. I like the looks of the Dodge's, but just dont have as much experience with them.
In your opinion, what's the best diesel truck on the market right now? The worst?? I want the good, bad and ugly :) TIA! |

I had a 2010 Dodge Ram 3500 Diesel that was constantly in the shop. I know many cowboys who swear a Dodge is the greatest truck every made but Mine was a lemon! Literally had to have it towed to the dealership twice. |

Location: NE Texas | I've got a 2010 Dodge that we did the delete on back in the spring and put a dual disc clutch in. It's got 170,000 miles on it and drives like a race car. It has been a good truck over all and i've always been a die hard Dodge fan due to the fact that you could get a Dodge in a standard transmission up until the last few years. I've only driven one Dodge automatic pulling a trailer for a friend and i'm not sure i'm sold on that. The standards were awesome though.
We've been looking at trucks a little bit. We won't trade in the Dodge, but have considered buying a new truck to leave hooked to the trailer. I have to admit that i've looked at the Chevy/GMC pretty closely. I'd have to hook one up to my trailer before I could make the jump. The Dodge is a pulling machine....but with the automatic, i'm just not sure. |

Location: In The Snow, AZ | We JUST bought a 2016 Chevy 3500 Duramax. It's pulling our 3 horse 9' shortwall like a dream. Don't even feel it behind us.
We looked into the Dodges and just couldn't pull the trigger on it. We were initially pulling with an '04 Chevy 2500hd Duramax. And although it pulled it great, we didn't feel like we had the stopping power we needed behind it going down some of the switchbacks we travel thru. Don't get me wrong, it pulled our old trailer beautifully. But with the bigger trailer, we smoked our brakes in two hauls. Better safe than sorry, so we bought a new truck. I've read SO many times here, that it's not what can be pulled, but what can be stopped. And it proved to be a true statement in our situation.
But to your original question, I say Chevy, hands down... |

But I really think Ford beats them all out IMO. I'm looking at a 6.7 that's a few years old to replace my old Ford 7.3. BTW...I grew up a GM/Chevy girl too, but even my father has now switched to Fords...never thought I'd see the day lol! |

However, I will agree with GM/Chevy owners that the ride and the interior comforts of the Chevy/GM trucks are better and the Allison transmission is a definite plus...but we prefer manuals any ways, so it hasn't ever really been an issue with us with the Dodges. |

| We have 3 Duramax's.
2007 Chevy 2500HD, egr delete and a 30hp tune. This one will die on the farm, pre emissions and will sit down and pull until you say stop.
2008 GMC 3500 DRW, replaced another '08 Duramax 2500 with this one when we bought our bigger trailer. Incredibly comfortable truck to drive. We can find the bottom of it at higher speeds and some steeper hills. We plan to have the egr delete and tune put on it this winter.
FIL has a 2005 or 2006 GMC 2500HD as well. It has also been a great truck. If he found a sweet deal on a 3500DRW he'd consider trading up. Their Elite 3H squats the 3/4T pretty good. He's been making us drive everywhere so he can ride in the tonner, lol!
So we are a Duramax family. Our neighbor is also our mechanic and wrenches on diesels for a living. If we want work done on the side/under the table he said we better keep buying duramax's. He gets his fill of fixing the other 2 at work. |

My Dad has a new Chevy 2500 gas. The interior is super nice and it pulls fine but you need a 40 acre field to turn that thing around. Huge turning radius and it's not even as long as my truck. |

I don't get as good as Bingo, but I do drive with my foot in it most of the time. If the speed limit is 70, I'm usually going 77...but I get from 11 to 17 on the little monitor on the truck. I haven't figured it myself. That's pulling a 3 horse, 8 wide Platinum with LQ. |

I have a hard time believing this also. Ive ridden with a few friends with the Duramax and they get horrible mileage even down here in the flatlands. Ive also driven all 3 of the majors and you can have problems with all three. It just comes down to a matter of preference. I drive a Dodge. My ex husband's family owned a Ford dealership so I had to drive those for awhile. I would choose a Dodge or a Ford over a Chevy. |

My 2010 GMC 3500 with a Duramax gets about 16 naked, and 10-11 with a big LQ trailer (11,000 lbs empty). The smaller LQ trailer I had, my 08 was getting 12-13. I find 22 mpg hard to believe. |

NO. The unConstitutional EPA does! With their mandates that carry the weight of legislation when in fact are actually regulatory in nature. |

Location: NE Texas | I once traded in an awesome 1 ton Dodge that had about 100K miles on it for a King Ranch F450 Ford with 50,000 miles on it. I was so excited....this truck had been winking at me on my way to work for about a month, so I pulled in and drove it one evening, and ended it up driving home. Hubby loved it. It was a gorgeous truck....until we hooked it to our trailer and the exhaust literally hit the ground. We had to put airbags under it before we could even leave the driveway!
Now, one would think, gosh, her trailer must be HUGE! Nope, it was a Sooner 3 horse with a 10' short wall. Smallest LQ trailer i've ever had. There were a few other issues with the Ford like it it was almost impossible to get stopped even with the trailer brakes turned way up. It would anti-lock on dry road with a trailer at slow speed. Now keep in mind, i'm used to driving a standard....this was my first automatic, but did I mention it was pretty?!?!?!?!
Needless to say, that insident put a sour taste in my mouth for a Ford. I traded it in on another Dodge, which i'm still driving, and took a loss on the King Ranch. Pretty disappointing.
Now we're shopping again, and will hang on to the Dodge for a ranch truck. But do I dare try another Ford.....or Chevy? Or just stick with the old faithful Dodge even though it won't be a standard? I need to hook each one to my trailer to do a test drive. LOL |

Obiviously, You have not had any problems with the equipment you use or have access to. Good for you! I have been around and exposed to equipment with pee tanks that have experienced problems. The repairs are not cheap! They are on par with the nightmare expenses that the Ford 6.0s produce.

There is no arguing that nothing beats a Cummins. Nothing.
But since Fiat bought out Chrysler.......
After a year long battle that involved lawyers, the United States Attorney General, and the lead investigator for the NHTSA, the information we learned will ensure we will never be Chrysler customers again. And not necessarily because Dodge does or doesn't stink. It boils down to HOW they handle the situation when it doesn't favor them. And how they tried everything they could right down to breaking federal laws to attempt to screw us over.
We ended with a 2015 GMC 3500 Denali. We have had it since March and are beyond impressed with it. Not only is it a beast to haul with (5 horse with LQ), it's actually are vehicle of choice to go anywhere, shopping etc. We just love it that much that we don't mind spending a little extra of fuel to drive it. |

| I got lucky and was able to dump an 09 and an 011 dually's when I sold my cow place that would make a preacher cuss. One was a DEF addict and within 200 miles would choke down to 15mph if you could keep it running and the $250 filter always was the problem and there is no warranty time on this POS .... the other would just die on the hiway and no one ever figured out why ... I knew every tow truck driver between Houston, San Antonio to Okla City and Tulsa .... US RYDER even banned them from my tow contract with them .. lol ... both were Fords ...
I like my classic trucks and cars 3500 2003 dodge cummins diesel 6spd manual ... 22+ running empty .. 16-18 with a standard 3h w/oversized tack room .... it was my runaround truck before and only has 114,000 miles on it.
I have a 1991 corvette 240HP automatic that nails over 25mpg doing 70-75 mph and it has only 44,000 miles on it ...
I also have a 2000 corvette 350Hp 6spd manual that just got 29.7 mpg driving round trip to and from Corpus Christi at 75-85mph ... it has only 16,000 miles on it ... lol
These two vettes are all the horses I need ... will be selling my last 3 this month ... palomino mare and palomino baby and a yearling buckskin filly .. lol
I am not sure which one of my vehicles I am going to get buried in .. because I like all three of them ... they may all freak out since they are all kept in the garage or barn alleyway .. ... lol

The 99 Ford dually w/ 6 speed is still the bomb. Still haven't hit 200,000 yet, so lots of life yet. And the 02 250 w/ 250,000 miles still rolling everyday also. Love these trucks. |
