So i made the transition from hunter/jumper to barrels, Because English costs a lot of money. So i was looking at a fun, crazy, speed event and i came across Barrel racing.
So i am getting a barrel horse next year around April or may.
Lets get too the point....
I am 13 and working for the money for a barrel horse. But the prob is, I don't think i will be able too get the saddle until next year around December.... So any ideas on how too get a saddle earlier? I don't think i could get hammy downs or anything. Could i ride a barrel horse in just a saddle pad and halter/lead or bridle? Or could i ride it bareback...?

If it makes you feel any better, I have known Ty Mitchell since he was a little boy and now he is an instructor at Joseys. There are a LOT of big name trainers that are men.
My recommendation is a Corriente Saddle. They are not too expensive and a great entry level saddle. they fit a wide variety of horses.

I rode bareback a lot as a kid. But you cannot compete bareback in case that is what you meant.
Also keep an eye on craigslist or if you have facebook, I got my nieces barrel saddle for couple hundred bucks. Needed a good cleaning but is name brand and good quality.
