Hello, my 4 year old got hurt in his paddock , laid down to roll and got his leg under the panel when trying to get up, so I called the vet for x rays. So the x rays show
an incomplete fracture of the lateral malleolus of his left hock. Stall rest for 4 mts. Anyone else every had this happen? He was being trained for barrels.

To prevent arthritis you need to get all the inflammation out of that leg. I would get the vet to inject HA into the joint, no steroids, just HA. I would discuss with you vet about banamine or bute to prevent swelling

Im dealing with a hock injury myself. Same deal... banged it up while possibly rolling... who knows. Soft tissue injury though nothing fractured. Vet had me sweat the leg and give her a bute regiment to help with inflammation. Other than stall rest did your vet give you any care instructions?? Seems odd to have them just want him stalled with out managing inflammation, etc. Im still debating on hock boots... Ice vibe? Magnets? Ceramic therapy? to many options and they are all suppose to help. I'd say add a calming, probiotic, and ucler supplement to his feed while he is down too. THE calming cookies are a lifesaver.
