Ok does anyone have a solution to prevent shavings from going under the trailer tack door/wall into the tack area. There is a gap of about 1 inch and it's driving me crazy with shavings goi g into the tack area.

I was thinking maybe some of that foam, pipe insulation. Should bend right around the bottom. I may do the same thing.

My dad took an old rubber truck bed mat, the thin ones, and cut it in strips (whatever width you'd need) then bolted them onto the tack walls; similar concept to a door sweep. You may even be able to buy a door sweep and retrofit them.

My husband cut out a piece of thick plywood to fit in the tack area, works great.

The foam pipe that they sale at Lowes etc., the kind for putting on pipes when it is freezing outside.  It is already split.  Cut it to length and slip it on.  Easy

Or the swiming noodles would work to I would think, the foam pipe insulation has that slit where you could slide it onto the bottom of the walls and the noodle you could slice it to slide on too

This. When it gets nasty, toss and replace in 10 seconds. Easy peasy.

Ours has a rubber sweep bolted to the bottom. Does a pretty good job of keeping the water out of the tack area when I pressure wash the inside of the trailer too.

I also use a pool noodle. I stock up in the summer so I'm not up a creek without a paddle in the winter when I need one.

Thanks everyone.  Some great ideas.  I think I'll start with the pool noodles and see how that works.  But lots of other great ideas if that doesn't work.

Have you considered NOT using shavings?

I do not use shavings...gasp! They are dusty & my guys have enough trouble without that. BUT, I don't haul on long trips. Just within an hour usually. My geldings have no problem peeing without shavings either. They pee anywhere & everywhere.

I had this same problem in my horse trailer. I went to our local farm store and purchased the rubber bottom sweeps that look like squeegees that are used to block drafts on doors. It works like a charm! You still get the stray chips here and there, but nothing like I used to deal with.

Home improvement stores have what they call draft stop. Is "L" shaped med. soft rubber strip you just screw to the bottom. It stays put and mostly water proofs the tack room. I even put it on the vertical wall between the tack wall and the trailer door. Works great. It's made for roll up doors.

Pool Noodles also work great as insulators for electric fencing.........just tossing that out there.

I had to run a hot wire along the back of a metal building and it helps keep it from touching the metal in a few spots.

Pool noodles for the back tack and my back but strap. I even cut one to slide behind my escape door handle when I have to tie a horse to the tie by the door. He can't get his rope slid behind the handle and pull.

Cut a rubber mat to fit your rear tack and put it on top of the existing mat and it will fill the gap.

In the past trailer, I put old towels under it & then duct taped it down. (THIS is why I do not like collapsible rear tacks, but so hard to find a trailer w/the permanent one). Now I use the pool noodles & they work great for the bottom & inbetween the "panels" of the collapsible tack - I also don't like the dust getting on my tack. For the person who said don't use shavings: if you don't have shavings down & your horse pees, the pee will run into your tack then! YUCK! Been there, done that, prefer the shavings & pool noodles.
