| Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength , a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed. 10 Be still, and know that I AM God; I will be exalted among the nations, and I WILL be exalted in the earth!
While we are not told the specific challenge the psalmist was facing, it is possible it was an earthquake, or a Hurrican. Despite his situation, the psalmist said his response would not be one of fear. The psalmist stated his confident assurance in the ever present, powerful God as his refuge and strength.
Before Jesus came to earth, God's presence dwelled in the innermost part of the tabernacle, then in the temple in the city of Jersusalem. Jews confidently spoke of how His presence made them secure. But the writer was looking beyond just the current time when he spoke of a river flowing in the city. V4 there is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, v9 he makes wars cease to the end of the earth. The picture is of heavenly Jersusalem, where the life is flowing Revelation 22:1 then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and the lamb down the middle of the great street of the city.
The externality of God means He was, is and will be a refuge of His people.
What great problems are you facing today? have the attitude and confidence of the psalmist. Be still, and sense God's presence. Exalt Him and Praise Him! God IS you ever present Helper!
For it is WITH God all things are possible.
