The exaggeration by the US weather bureau is not happening ... the evacuation is designed to get people used to being told to do things by our government ...

GET YOU A GOOGLE MAP OF THE COAST OF FLORIDA FROM MELBORNE TO ST AUGUSTINE SO YOU CAN KEEP UP WITH WHERE THEY ARE SHOWING ...

THE TALKING HEADS CONSTANTLY SPEAK OF THE WIND SPEEDS 20+ MILES OUT IN THE OCEAN WHERE THE EYE IS ...

THE FEW WIND MAPS SHOW 40-50 MPH ON THE COAST WITH A 3 TO 6 FT SURGE AND DOWN TO 20MPH 10 MILES FROM THE COAST ...

. LOVED THE GUY THAT SAID ... THE SURGE DOES NOT MEAN THERE IS MORE WATER IN THE OCEAN .. IT MEANS THE WIND IS PUSHING WATER OUT OF THE OCEAN ON TO THE BEACHES ....

THIS IS THE MOST INFORMATIVE AND HONEST VIDEOS I HAVE SEEN ON ANY OF THE VIDEOS I HAVE VIEWED .. follow on your google map and keep in mind they are reporting on all the hotels and people that are sitting right on the beach or one of the sand islands that never should have been built on ..

Until you have lived through and seen the actual devistation a hurricane has done you just don't know.

Yea, the media seams like it blows up a lot of stuff, however had Matthew come ON SHORE, it would have been way worse.  As it is, there will still be a lot of damage from winds and surge.

I'm in SW Fla and for one am glad we were on the weak side.
Charlie did damage for very close friends of ours and Wilma did several thousands of dollars or damage for us.  Insurance gave us barely 2k.  That did not even pay for the clean up much less for the rebuilding process.

You want to come down and help me clear my driveway from this "non existent conspirosy"? I already got the tree off my roof and one off my truck but still have more to go.

Oh and while you're at it, you can cover my paycheck since my job has been closed since Tuesday night and i have no idea as of today when we will reopen, at least thankfully I can take my clients to another location but my book is in the shop so I have no idea who was scheduled. But it's not that bad....only have a 4 year old and 2 horses to feed.

I'm assuming you haven't seen the pictures of the devastation? Almost 900 lives lost in Haiti. Two lives lost in my state.

OH YO HO ..

Same old story ... everyone build close to the beach, river or the wonderful low places never built on before and they get flood insurance that you pay for as tax payers or if reg ins .. you still pay for it with higher premiums ...

If you are one of these fools you should not be able to get insurance for a second go around ....

I loved one honest weather reporter ... He said it is not happening because there is too much water in the ocean .. the wind is pushing the ocean on to the land ... so don't build back in the same place."

Take the power outages ... tree huggers won't let them clear the trees out from under power lines width of the right of way and the trees knock off your power ... duhhhh

I take all of these evacuations as priming the public to obey the government idiots to get out of your homes and strung out on the hiway so you will be easier to load on buses to detention centers ........ it's coming folks ... just ask Hillary ...

Other than the surge I didn't see anything worse than a standard thunderstorm in Oklahoma // Texas .. .. lots more drama on TV ..

I never have understood why these idiot reporters stand out in the rain and wind to tell you it is raining and the wind is blowing .... lol

I do not live on the beach.  I have lived in this house for 34 years, and it is OK. Once again, you don't appear to have any hurricane experience.  Depending on the storm there is plenty of damage inland.  Orlando was badly hurt in 2004.

Only 20mph winds? No storm surge? Are you WHACK?
We had 89mph winds 30 miles from the beach.

If that's the case then why live anywhere in the world? Why not live in a bubble or never come out of your house? There are natural disasters everywhere!!! California- wildfires, Midwest- tornados, up north/northwest- blizzards, south- hurricanes, come on now.

Living on the beach is awesome, maybe you have never been there but there's something about the water that's stoic and peaceful, it can put your mind at ease and take away your anxiety. With that being said, I doubt anyone builds waterfront without insurance that covers hurricane damage.

In this case on our coast we live 15 miles inland and there's lots of land just west of i95 and even a little east of there and the islands. Many of us have made our homes and livings here because it's an awesome place to live and brings a lot of tourism that keeps us in business. Not to mention my snowbirds.

This storm WAS devastating, I'm STILL out of work, there's no working AC in my building and I don't expect my clients to sit through that. All of my county is out of school again tomorrow (Monday) due to power failure.

This was NOT just your regular afternoon thunderstorm, you obviously have never seen a Florida thunderstorm. I can guarantee you OK can not compare. We are the lightening capital of the world. You have more of a chance to get struck by lightening then bit by a shark. This storm generated over 100MPH winds at my house 15 miles from the coastline. It could have Been worse yes but there was still sure devastation. St augustin and Jacksonville are underwater as the storm surge hit At high tide. Those were not even beachside homes.

The media hypes things up so people will actually evacuate and not try to ride the storm out, I don't know if you read my earlier post but my brother tried to stay and ride the storm out and his roof came off in the middle of the storm, he had to flee and drive in 120mph winds since you could not get any emergency services on the beach.

The storm at the last minute wobbled more east and sparred us from having 135-145 mph winds which would have been much much worse.

Please, think before you speak and maybe sit through a few hurricanes before you judge events yourself.

My company sent crews from south Alabama to south Florida to help because while the storm didn't hit directly we all knew there would be much to clean up and repair because we have all been there before. Pass, Pass, Puff much???

ETA I just realized who made this thread. Makes sense now.

On a side note- in the middle of Ga we still got 30+ MPH wides. Death count for NC is 19, Ga 2. Prayers for all affected!
