any recommendations on a saddle maker that will build a "quality" barrel saddle for less than $1k? have used corriente in the past and looking to go a different direction.

We like the Team Steinhoff saddles. You can customize them anyway you like, and they have a flex tree option as well. My nine year old and I both ride in one and we love them!

I have both Corriente and Steinhoff (not youth), and I actually like my Corriente better.  It looks nicer too.

My nephew had a Teskey youth saddle that was pretty nice.

Under 1000.00 for a nice quality and safe barrel saddle, Nope ... Why did you not like the Corriente saddle you had?

Guess looking to see if there are any recommendations on lesser known makers that will still do a good job – looking to go that route or pick up a used one.

Martha Josey has youth saddles, I would look for a used one

I bought my son a 10" Teskys buckaroo saddle and I am really happy with the quality. Nice, heavy made little saddle. He was riding in a borrowed Corriente buckaroo saddle before, virtually the same saddle, and I liked it, but the difference in weight between it and the Teskys was surprising. I purchased mine used, but I researched the price of a new one and it was about $800+

I'll second that. My kids started off in an Allen Ranch and it sat them really balanced and centered. I found a good deal on a used 12" Shiloh Jerri Mann for my daughter to move up to, but even after riding it all summer, she still wishes she had her AR back (I traded it for a farrier bill LOL).   The Shiloh isn't a bad saddle tho.

Shallow Creek Bits makes a great Youth Saddle that is deep seated and balanced.

I don't know if Ammerman makes a youth saddle. I've had two for myself, an older Marlene and a newer Angel Kisses and they were both exceptionally nice saddles. Probably a little above the price range the OP was looking at though...

Custom HR saddles are very well made and ride great from youth to roper. Son has one and will last forever and worth the money. Hud Roberts is his name from frisco texas. meet him once. Awesome saddles.
