Well my horse has a swollen leg. It isn't painful to him, he isn't off on it. Vet said try to sweat it down. I used fura-zone, winter green oil and epsoms salts. Wrapped in plastic with cotton and vet wrap. Left it on 24 hours swelling came down pretty good. However this AM it is swollen back up some. Any better ideas on what to sweat it with?

Alcohol sweat. Or 1/2 DMSO/Dex and mix with Furacin.

I usually do a Furazone DMSO wrap. But have had fantastic luck with PHT products .

I usually use DMSO & furicin (sp?) - or just rubbing alcohol.

I use DDF- Dexamethasone, DMSO and furacin.  On a clean leg, slather, wrap with saran wrap then a good quilt and vetwrap or a polo.  I leave mine 12 hrs then cold hose.  I might use a support wrap during the day, then repeat the sweat for a couple of days as needed.

When I pull the sweat, I check the leg super thoroughly to see if I can feel a specific area that still has a little swelling/ extra heat to narrow down what I'm dealing with.  If the swelling comes back after 2-3 days of sweating, I go to the vet.

I just use the Furazone and wrap it. the DMSO would be good too. But, if the horse doesn't have a cut or something then he has pulled or tore something on the inside. If you haven't figured out what it is, I would do so immediately. He may need stall rest ect. per the vet. Sweating is simply a temporary fix for fluid buildup. Since it keeps coming back, I would be more concerned with a method to heal the actual problem rather than just sweating out the fluid. I have used Thermaflex to help with bowed tendons and things like that but that is only for minor things also. Hope you figure out what's wrong!

Thank you! I'll try adding the DMSO to the fura-zone and see. He isn't lame at all. Very strange. Sigh horses can get hurt on air!

Runners Relief and I wrap with a disposable diaper -already has the plastic wrap-and an ace bandage.  Had an injury, not an open wound, that had to be wrapped for 2 months and found this was the easiest.

Furacin, dmso. Quilt, plastic wrap then standing bandage.

^^^ this. Always cotton or a quilt before the plastic wrap.

Can you explain the reason. I've always seen people put the plastic wrap on before the quilt.

YES! I never put the plastic directly on the leg.

So you don't blister the horse.

This. And there's always a chance the wrap could shift or slide and potentially cut off circulation
