Retired my old saint of a gelding in December and bought a young gelding and decided that being in college and trying to finish and season a colt when I don't have the experience is unrealistic, so listed him for sale. I'm looking to get my confidence back up and finally get back to jackpots. I'm looking for something OLDER (8+ but have no issue with 15-18yr olds). Something finished and solid to go out and have fun on. 3Dish times. Papers or no papers, really don't care. A lot of the horses I have inquired about required a LOT of maintenance in my opinion. So what is typical maintenance on say a 15 yr old barrel horse running 3D times. What is the typical price range you think I will find this unicorn? I was hoping to find something under $8000.

At 14, my gelding needed hocks and stilfle injections every 6-8 months. Previcox as he got older (he had some bad stifle issues). Kept him on joint and gut supplements. I guess this is what i consider normal maintenance.

Are you looking at 3D for small local jackpots or 3D for large jackpots?

I would be interested as well. Once I am able to ride, I will be needing something similar. That's assuming I can get my horse sold, tho.

Yes you should be able to find a very nice horse for $5000-$7500. I have seen several recently on Facebook groups fitting your description.
Edited to add there are several on this site. Use the search criteria and put in your requirements. Happy hunting :)

I think your requirements are realistic.  I don't know where you're located, but I know of a fantastic gelding that fits your bill if you want to PM me.

I would say for what you're looking for you should be able to find something pretty low maintenance. Maybe I live under a rock and have had good luck with horses lol.

I agree, I think you could find something around that price range. I think you will get something older, if you are wanted been there, done that. But a 8-10 year old might be 3D with more potential but may not be as consistent yet.
