Slavery. It's an ugly word and an even uglier reality. Most of us know something about the history of slavery. We at least know there was a time when people were denied freedom and basic rights due to their ethnicity. We abhor it today. We know people are made to be free. But are we really free?
Slavery takes many forms, and perhaps spiritual oppression is the worst. Free people are not always free, not when they are bound to addictions, enslaved to habitual patterns, and trapped in deceptive lives.
Psalm 119:129:144 tells us about the oppression of men, and knew about the dominion of sin. The psalmist knew sin can enslave worse than any human matter. So he prayed " Let no Iniquity have dominion over me." V133. So what is the path if freedom? IT IS TO BE DIRECTED BY TRUTH OF GOD's WORD. The psalmist prayed, " Direct my steps by our Word." He had confidence that God would guide him into freedom if he would only LISTEN and OBEY. He knew he would be freed from oppression if he FOLLOWED God's PRINCIPLES.
God's Word leads us away from oppression and bondage and INTO spiritual freedom. TRUST Him and STEP INTO the freedom He has from You. V140 Yôur Word is pure; therefore Yôur servant loves it.
V142 Yôur righteousness IS an everlasting righteousness, and Yôur law IS truth. V 144 Give me understanding, and I shall live.
For it is WITH God all things ARE possible
