What are the pros and cons of running a 4yo Futurity horse vs waiting until they are 5yo?
I know there is sometimes a big maturity gap from a 4yo and 5yo, usually. I know that sometimes their mind can't handle it. But other than that, are there benefits or major downfalls to going when they are 4?
I'll wait until mine is 5. I'm slow. Living in the frozen tundra it gives her added time to be ready plus it will give her more time to mentally and physically be ready. But mosty, I'm slow.

dumb statements are dumb.
Not sure why this is dumb?
I tend to agree that at 5, a horse is more solid. I'll debate on the 4yo or 5yo thing awhile longer. Just depends on where I can get the mare her 2 and 3yo years. That will determine a lot.

I can't say that isn't the case around here too. Depends on the weather! Also depends on if I decide to do it all myself, or if I'll send her somewhere for parts of it.

I live in Canada and all the futurities are 5 and under so in my opinion there isn't much incentive to run at 4. Other than you would get an extra derby hear out of them I guess.
