My husband trained a grey pony as a rope horse that was known as "Tugboat". The little guy would go left towing steers as big as he was. Lots of heart. |

Psycho- my then five year old named his horse after his favorite bull out of my brother's bucking Bulls. This horse was Roman nosed, pig-eyed, pin eared with muscle atrophy in one hip. |

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | We had a thug-type guy working for us this year called Lowdown. I bought a 14.1 hh buckskin prospect who wants to be a little badass, so I ended up naming him Lowdown because it just fit. Then the original got fired a couple of weeks ago for coming to work drunk and trying to run over his Mexican co-worker with the tractor. Too late now. |

Location: LaBelle, Florida | A big solid white (gray) TB gelding...1200lbs of nasty, named Shark. We had to keep an cone outside of his stall to warn people away. If you got to close, he would reach out and grab you and mean it. His owner was an older woman that might have been 100 lbs soaking wet. His little tiny owner had him wrapped around her pinky. When he would get cranky with her, she would bit him up, and loung the crap out him. He would be good as gold for her for awhile. |

We have an HB also. Around the time she was born Lonesome Dove was playing on TV. I jokingly told hubby that we could call her Hell ***** and he said we could call her HB. I fought the name for awhile but she does fit the name. Funny that someone else has a HB also! |

Location: Smack Dab in the Middle | I have one that has the barn name Charlie, but he's kind of a jerk, so I started calling him Richard. I seriously get a little happy when I DON'T have to explain to people why I call him that...
My husband has a 30 year old mare that has been a b**** her entire life (age hasn't slowed her attitude down one bit)... She's one of those horses that someone woulda put a bullet between her eyes if she wasn't so good at her job. He always called her The Red Mare, and after we'd dated a couple of months I finally asked, does The Red Mare have a name? His answer was "yeah...Red Mare. Sometimes The Red B****." LOL. Well I got to know her and Red B**** certainly fit her better.
Then I had to be the one to take her to the vet and they wanted to know her name for her records. I felt bad telling them her name, so I told them Hagatha, and for the most part, it stuck. So she's one of those 3 names, depending on who you're talking to and what her attitude is at the time.
He also has a sweet old retiree named Ace... When we purchased his successor--a Two Eyed Jack bred gelding--he was being called Dunny, which we already had, so he needed a new name. Jack seemed cliché, so since he was to follow in Ace's footsteps, he became Deuce.
We bought a colt from a gal that is a firefighter, her brand looks like a fire hydrant, and all her horses have a fire/smoke themed name. So we were trying to think of something like that, and my then 3 year old son wanted to name him Mayday, after the fire engine in Planes Fire and Rescue. It was a perfect fit. |

Papa used to have a horse named Two Step, because when he bucked you off, it was so bad you'd have a limp and have to do the two step to get around.
