| Sorry it's so long. Bought a saddle on the 2nd using PayPal, it said it would be instant but since I used my bank had to wait for the payment to clear. The girl needed the money to buy another saddle so I had her refund me then resent using my cc so it was instant on the 5th. Called me wondering why paypal took money out so I explained the fees to her, she said that was fine. Said shed split shipping with me and it shouldnt be more than 70 so to send another 35, well I decided to be nice and sent 50 as friends and family because she didnt know about the fees. Bugged her for tracking a couple times, didn't get back to me til the 10th because she was busy, said saddle is ready to ship out tomorrow. Great, make sure you get tracking. Asked for tracking again but didn't get back to me til the 15th saying she'd check in at the post office on where it was and that tracking was at home but she wasnt. Asked again where tracking was and didn't get back to me til Monday night, saying USPS screwed up and she took the saddle back and is going to ship via UPS Tuesday. Bugged her again today for tracking and she finally gave it, but is asking for more money because shipping UPS was more expensive than she thought and she got dinged 70 bucks for paypal fees. The tracking number shows nothing yet so I'm guessing it didn't go out til today, she said it'd be here Monday. Do I give her more money? I feel like I shouldn't have to due to her lack of knowledge on the whole thing but I don't know.. Ugh what a pain!

| Unsure why the shipping was so much, it's going from Montana to Phoenix, AZ and USPS I calculated it would be about 60. Not sure if she got insurance either, my guess is no. Probably something I should have covered but I bought this saddle while on the drive from WI to AZ so I was a little busy.
I was thinking if I do actually get the saddle and everything is good, she can refund me the 2500 and I'll send it to her via friends and family so she gets the full 2500 and I'm not out anymore money. Or if she doesnt want to do that I'll send her 10 bucks and call it good.. I feel like I've been more than fair and she's ignored me the majority of the time.. |

Is that a 10k saddle? Sheesh... I've shipped quite a few saddles and it's never been over $80.. with insurance you might be pushing $100 but over $400?? Insane. |

| I've been selling tack and shipping things (many saddles included) for years now (since I got my license at 16 actually) and I have always been well aware of the fees, cost of shipping and importance of shipping promptly and giving a tracking number. A few times when shipping turns out to cost a little more or I feel nice becasue someone is selling me something for low, I will throw them a few extra bucks but this girl wouldn't be getting any more money from me. She should have calculated how much it would cost and have known what PayPal takes out. Plus she waited too long, had she shipped the next day I would have maybe felt a little worse but you went out of your way to redo the payment so she gets it right away and help her out, now it's her turn.
Also, if the saddle doesn't show up your CC company can disput it |

Location: In my own little world | It's the difference between sending UPS vs USPS. I seldom ship saddles UPS anymore due to them being so much more expensive. In the past I have done my homework ahead of time and ended up getting charged way more when I actually shipped. If you both agreed on half, I certainly wouldn't think twice about giving her another $10. I know if it was me I would appreciate a buyer doing that. |

See I wouldn't either, but it was her ides to change from USPS to UPS, I had it all calculated out for USPS plus gave her an extra 15 to be nice. She wants more money to cover shipping and now her paypal fees she didn't realize would come out.. That's what I have a problem with. |

| I shipped a saddle last winter and STUPIDLY used the UPS Store - $120ish bucks. Was pretty floored but it was incredibly convenient and I was on the way to the airport so no real time to change my plans. Wont use them again though. Maybe that's where she shipped it from. Good luck! |

The last saddle I shipped from So Ga to ND was $89. No insurance. And, basically, i don't see how a saddle can fit in a 24x24x24 box.
I am shipping one today in a tote to LA from SO GA with insurance I will let you know how much it is.
But the prices I have seen on here are reasonable. It is the box size that gets you. Plus, who the local postal worker is and if they are doing their job. |

Depends on the kind of saddle you're shipping. I've shipped 4+ barrel saddles (13"-14") and they have all fit in an 18x18x24 no problem. This one is a round skirted 13.5" so should definitely not be a problem to fit in a smaller box than a 24x24x24. Should be more than enough.
And yes, she switched from using USPS (which would have been way cheaper) to UPS because of some mistake. I don't see how I should have to pay for that mistake.. Checked the tracking this a.m. and still has yet to move but it is only 10 a.m... |

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | If I screw up figuring the cost of something I sold, whether paypal fees, shipping, whatever, I eat it. That's part of being an adult--when you make a mistake, you woman up and deal with it. I wouldn't send her any more money, and I bet she gets her crap together better next time.
As for shipping, the most one ever cost me was $80 with insurance and that was because I shipped through a UPS store location in Staples. I had figured $50 for shipping, so I ate the other $30 as my mistake. I now have an account set up with UPS where I do it online and get a discount. It automatically emails the tracking info to the buyer for me. |

Since I didn't specify shipping costs, I paid for it, not the buyer.
However, in your case, I would not pay her anything more.

It's pretty normal to take 24 hours to show up in the system once it's picked up. One time a saddle I shipped never did show up, but the buyer got it right on time. That one made me nervous because it was a trade, and we did it on the honor system.

| I'm also worried because I had to do the hold for pickup option because my address isn't recognized here.. So I'm wondering if they'll know to call me when it's in. She at least gave me the address for the ups store it would go to so I'll check in Monday.
I know tracking can take awhile to show up but she said she shipped out Tuesday. And even if she didn't ship out until yesterday, tracking should have showed something by now... |

Location: MS | Shipping has gone up ridiculously. I live in MS and sold a saddle pad to someone in Washington state. The shipping was going to cost me $70. I spent an hour in the post office trying to stick it in boxes and such. The postmaster told me prices have gone up dramatically and it really determines what region you live in and the region you are shipping to. Needless to say I refunded the lady bc I only sold the pad for $50. I had shipped a pad the week before to LA and it was a smaller but it didn't cost me but $20. |

Location: Got Lobsta? | We ship anything over 8 pounds and over $400 value through UPS. Yes it can be more because they don't have a flat shipping rate, but the detailed tracking is vital to us and the customer. Saddles through USPS can sometimes be a bit cheaper but you do not get a detailed tracking - just what facilities it is currently located in. Like NTO said, sometimes you don't receive anything but the customer does receive it on time. We don't take chances, especially on saddles. UPS is equipment with handling the heavy high valued load and its easier to file a claim if there is a problem. Any oversized packages for example saddles, saddle pad boxes, are listed as "oversized" and you get charged a high fee no matter the weight. Prices have gone through the roof which is frustrating as gas prices have gone down over the past 3 years. It also depends if she shipped it by USPS regular ground which is the last loads to be picked up and delivered or Priority mail. 3-4 days. Good luck, I hope you get it soon! |

This is exactly why I use UPS! As a shipper and a receiver I love to watch where the saddle is at all times. I've never had an issue with UPS to date, but I have had issues with USPS in the past, so I won't use them. Sometimes peace of mind to me is worth the extra cash spent. |

I know I shipped a pair of boots from MN to ND, about 4 hour drive and it took 4 days to get there through the post office and every time I tried to track it the package still showed in MN. After that whole ordeal I won't use the post office anymore. I haven't shipped a saddle in a long time but always had good luck with UPS so hopefully you will too! |

Just a heads up for future use, if you are shipping from and to MN, ND, SD, IA, WI, Il, and parts of MO and Nebraska you can use SpeeDee Delivery and it is WAY cheaper and faster. Most is next day and they charge based on actual weight instead of dimensional weight like UPS does. That is why UPS has gone way up, they changed over to dimensional weight which really hurts on shipments like saddles.
Those shipping saddles and wondering the price difference when the weight is close, I would guess the box is bigger. UPS has also started tacking on an additonal fee from $10.50 to over $50 for large package handling surcharges. Use the very smallest box you can get the saddle in when possible. |
