Here is the deal...sorry if this is long but you guys are good with being up front about things so I want to give you the details.....I have not been able to ride for almost a year due to a spontaneous CSF leak and am at least 4 mos away from being able to ride again. I have lost pretty much all of my confidence in riding. I was able to sell my barrel horse. I loved him but we didn't click. I have my retired gelding still that I have owned for 12 yrs (he's 24). He is rock solid but can be very hot. Was thinking I would be needing a confidence builder type to get back to the swing of things.
My plan was to not buy anything until I was able to ride BUT I have found a horse that would be perfect for me to get back into it when the time comes. He is super laid back, kid friendly, has gas but only when asked and then shuts if off when you stop asking. He is lightly patterned. The best part is the seller is willing to trade for a barrel saddle I am selling. Would you pass or go for it? Yes he is sound and sane. Oh and he's a 7 yr old grade gelding.

Do you already know this horse? How well do you know the owners? Can you get some one who has the same level of confidence you have to try him if you don't know the horse/people all that well? If you know for absolute sure he is how he is described, then yeah I'd go ahead and buy him. One more question- can you go hang out with him and see if you fall in love with him on the ground? I have found that if I don't trust a horse on the ground it makes it hard for me to trust them in the saddle since I lost my confidence.
