Have a gelding that is showing signs of fibromyopathy in his right "buttcheek." Does anyone have any experience with it? Didn't find much on google. He is on a Vitamin E and folic Acid supplement from the vet. When that is gone he is going on a Vitamin E and Organic Selenium supplement. He also gets linament put on everyday. He is in the early stages of diagnosis. Would a Theraplate help or hinder? My vet has seen him twice, my vet also knows I don't have thousands to spend on him! Thanks in advance!

Google "Fibrotic Myopathy" and I bet you'll find more helpful information :)
With fibrotic myopathy there is a surgery that can be performed that can help a lot of these horses- really just depends on the amount of scarring present. Basically they can go in and transect the fibrotic tissue. Not a super expensive surgery, usually runs about $700-1000 depending on area to give you an idea of costs associated with and also if they place them under general anesthesia or do them standing. Quick procedure, relatively small incision (no more than 1") and the horses usually recover well.

I have a filly that has this. Hers is pretty large and it does cause her to step short behind at a walk, but it doesn't seem to hinder her much at a trot and lope. She was at the vet the other day for something else and the vet mentioned that if it became a problem for her she could do the surgery to cut the scar tissue.

Thanks for the info. I looked up videos, and he is not showing the signs the horses in the videos do, so I am not sure this is what he has. We are going to inject his hocks and go from there. I have never had a horse injected before, approx. what am I looking at to spend to have both hocks done?

Injections won't do sh** so don't waste your money, been there done that. It's a mechanical lameness which only affects the gait. You can do the surgery, but again, probably a waste of money because scar tissue can re-form.
I owned a mare that had fibromyopathy that occurred from when i was at a rodeo doing my queen run...kids ran by her and popped off a firework and she back straight into a bolt on the horse trailer, slicing her open. The myopathy didn't appear until 3 years later, and i had her injected after the vet recommended. Spent hundreds of $$$ only to find out it was a mechanical lameness which doesn't physically hurt the animal so i stopped injections and let her be. before I sold her, she was still clocking in the 1D locally.
