One last saddle post, I swear! (Okay, maybe not, but I hope so)

After trying yet another treed saddle that doesn't fit, and now having to waste my evening taking it back to the tack shop...I think I am finally ready to take the plunge on treeless.

I am continuing to do research on treeless western saddles that look like regular saddles. I almost pulled the trigger on a Bob Marshall, but then started reading that they aren't great for pretty wide horses. Can anybody confirm or deny that? My mare goes in a 7 to 7.5 inch gullet in a regular western saddle. She's not super wide in the withers, but is very wide below them, which is why I am throwing my hands in the air over treed saddles for her. I started looking at the Circle Y Cloud Peak or the Circle Y JJ as they both offer wide pommels. I have found several good reviews about the JJ, but can't seem to find anything about the Cloud Peak. For anybody that has either of those saddles, do you feel pretty balanced, or do you feel like your legs are being pulled in front of you? I really like that the new ones offer some built in shock absorption, especially since I post the trot at times. We tend to spend most of our time during schooling rides walking and trotting/jogging.

The difference in the "gullet" on the reg. vs wide treeless saddles is 1/4 inch. One has a more peaked pommel (reg.) and one is flatter (wide).  They stretch to fit.

Go to Horsetackworld.com  and find the number for Felicia.  She can tell you everything you've ever wanted to know about all models of treeless, and she sells them and rides in them herself.  She said on the JJ/TF models, she almost always recommends the wide for all horses.   In the Circle Y Just B Natural model, she almost always recommends the regular. (apples and oranges)

The Jackie saddle has a lower pommel and cantle,  and the cloud peak has a higer pommel and cantle, the same as the Tammy Fischer.   The cloud peak is basically the trail/cheaper version of the fancy JJ or TF models.   The Circle Y just be natural feels more like a treed saddle than any of the models mentioned.  I have had 2 and love them.  (reason for 2 -- 15.5 lost weight, bought 14.5)

I agree, call Felicia. She knows her stuff.

The Jackie and the Cloud Peak (trail) have the exact same set up (lower pommel and cantle)
The "rally" or all suede barrel racer is the same as the Tammy (higher pommel and cantle)
