I'm looking into getting a pony for one of my big horses that doesn't like hauling by him self at all. I'm concerned about the safety of the pony in the trailer. How do you haul a pony with big horses? I don't have a stud wall so that's not an option.

i load mine in the front hole, i have a long trailer tie i snap to her halter and close the slant gate. Its not a stud wall but does hit her right at the withers. she has never offered to try and wander in the trailer but in the year i have had her she tries to do everything the big horses do so when it came to the trailer she loaded right up and after a few trips hauled like an ole pro.

I put mine in the back hole and let him loose. He is a mini so he could get under the big horses but he never has. I always make sure he has some food and some shavings to lay in if he wants.

I haul in a stock and I just haul her like any other horse, head to ehad and tied. We always load her as the last horse. She is 42 inches. First one I had I hauled in the front spot backwards.
I never had any issues with them. I just treat them like any other horse and they are expected to behave like any other horse. If I have a bad hauler (full sized) I won't put my littles next to it but they haul fine next to anything that hauls well.

That's part of my concerns. My mare is a kicker. She's not so bad if your moving but if we stop she throws a fit. My main concern is pony getting under the big horses and getting stepped on or something. I use a stock trailer a lot and I'm not worried about it. Just my big lq trailer.

We hauled our mini in the last spot of the trailer. We attached a trailer tie to the furthest back feed bag ring in the stall since our little guy liked to turn and put his butt under the horse's head in front of him. This allowed him to turn but kept him at a safe enough distance that the big horse next to him couldn't really get at him. He was always filthy when we got to our destination though since he was always under the horses feed bag. Little turd! I love that little guy!

I see what your saying. I like that idea if it would work with my trailer having mangers.
