| I commute 140 miles a day.
I currently have a Honda Civic that gets between 30 and 35 mpg.
She's little, she's killing my back (see chiro post), and I'm pretty well terrified of hitting a deer in her.
I need to balance good fuel mileage with something built better for a tall person (I'm 5'10 and all legs, I need something that sits you more like a truck) and preferably all wheel drive.
We have a 3/4 ton and a 1 ton dually, neither of which are preferable commuter vehicles but the 3/4 ton might have to do for a bit.
What mid range size suv's are tall folk finding comfortable to drive? |

The only thing i dont like and from what i can tell we got a defective one, is that the passenger side seat is lower then driver. But its not horrible |

Location: Some where I haven't left yet | I drive comfortably a Ford Fusion and Mitsubishi Eclipse. The Fusion is averaging in town 27.5 MPG and my Eclipse (if I don't hot rod the fab Fast Car) will average 25+
In either car I can move the seat back and I can't fully depress a pedal.
I prefer the Eclipse (it's a 2006 because it's wide, low stance and if the weather is nasty it handles AMAZING). The Fusion is a comfy ride and I like it quite abit but I love a sporty car.
Both cars have withstood a thumping from me, I don't worry about deer in either car.
I wouldn't touch a Subaru if you paid me. Not because they are not great cars.... long story. |

I drive a lot of miles for work. I drive a 2014 Chevy Impala. I'm 6'3" and have back issues. I have the leather heated seats which I use as therapy.
Even at my height I don't have to put the seat all the way back. Plenty of leg room. I have the V-6 so it doesn't get the milage of the 4 cylinder. We just drove it to Gatlinburgs and got 30 mpg. I do a lot of stopping for work so it doesn't get as good then. Still, 23-25 mpg in stop and go driving. |

I drive about 120 miles round trip to work and I drive an Impala also. I have an 07 police edition and it goes from using 6 cylinders to 3 to improve gas miles. I've had it about 4 years and put on 100000 miles. Other than routine maintenance I've just had to replace the break pads. I've never checked gas mileage but I can almost drive the 6 hours to Minneapolis and back on one tank. My step dad, who is 6'4" thought it was roomy enough to ride in. |

| Thanks for the suggestions!
In laws have a Subaru Forester, i don't find it particularly comfortable.
Most of my pain is worse when my hips sit lower than my knees so I'm guessing that low to the ground cars in general aren't going to work.
I'll look into impalas. The budget is pretty slim so I doubt I'll find a Lincoln we can afford, but a gal at work has one and does like it.
We'll see, I adjusted the seat some based on some article I read, sadly the Civic is a 2003 basic model so it only has 2 adjustments other than forward and back for the seat and seat back, and one of them is the headrest up and down. Going to give it a couple weeks and see how it goes.

Both are wonderful to drive and get 26-31mpg rolling at 70-75mph ..
at that speed engines are barely turning 1800rpm ...
It's great to either lower the top or pop off the targa top and get a whole new look at the drive to and from work while letting the fresh air blow thru your hair ... lol
New place I am moving to lacks the garage space .. so I am selling one ..
pristine condition and excellent mechanical shape .. sad to think about

I test drove a Nissan Maxima platinum and I will say it had the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in. They have some kind of nassa seats or something. I just wish they weren't $40k!!! I would definitely look at their suvs! |

I second an Equinox. I had a little car that had been my every day commuter for the last several years and upgraged to a new to me Equinox in the spring. I will never go back to owning a car again! I'm right at 6 foot tall and love being able to get in and out of the Equinox so much easier. It's nice to be able to get a few bags of feed or shavings with it too. I get 28-30 mpg, it is a 4 cyl but has enough power for me. And since we have our trucks, I didn't get an AWD as I'll just drive a truck if the roads are bad. |

I have the Titanium package, so all the bells and whistles. I paid $22k for it, brand new 4 years ago, and I have logged 100k miles on it. I love it. I am perfectly comfortable in it, and so is my 6'4" husband.
If you want an SUV for sure, my husband daily drives a Ford Escape. We are on our second one (we gave our Escape with 358k miles to my inlaws, and they drive it every day). The thing is a beast in the snow, and can comfortably haul 4 people and shavings, feed, etc. |

As a tall person, I can tell you getting in and out of a Corvette is a nightmare. It's easier to just fall onto the ground and get up from there. Vettes are not daily driver friendly. |

| Try a GMC Acadia or a Terrain.
You can find them reasonably priced and they fit our tall family. The seats sit a bit higher like what you were looking for and .... used one's are not super pricey. My Dad has some mobility issues and is 6'5" and alllllll legs. He sat very comfortably in it for many hours a day road tripping from the west coast to KS.
Good Luck! |

I made some more adjustments to my desk at work this morning and that's made a huge difference, I think most issues where stemming from there as well as the vehicle... |

Right now I am driving an Audi Q7 SUV. I am 6'7" and fit great. Pretty good fuel economy and I have put over 120K miles on the current one with almost no issue but oil changes, tires and brakes. |

| Yeah won't be looking new for sure.
If we have to go buy in the next few weeks to month our budget is about $5k. If I can tough it out until next summer/fall it'll increase some. The payment on that would equal about what it would cost me extra to drive our 3/4ton everyday, before considering the additional money we'd have to spend on oil changes etc. |

This... We recently got a Subaru Outback and even my husband who is 6'3" is comfortable in it. I LOVE this car and even though I am not that tall I am all legs. (5'6" with a 37" inseam.) we commute 60 miles a day, and with the AWD I am okay in the winter conditions in the local mountains where we live. Not as gas friendly as a Civic, but also doesn't feel like I'm driving a tin can if we get hit. |

How long is your loan and what down payment though? I'm not managing to make those numbers work.
We like used cars and short loans, with as many miles as I drive I'm afraid we'd be upside down on a new car after the first month.
ETA: we own the Civic free and clear but it's 13 years old with almost 170k and wear and tear. If someone gave me $2k on trade I'd be impressed.

My husband hit a jack rabbit that did $1500 worth of damage to the bumper on our 1993 Civic (about 5 years ago) that showed over 250,000 miles on it (but really has closer to 500,000 speedometer quit years ago). I thought the insurance company would total it. Nope, they gave us a check for $1500 to repair it, said Hondas last forever. They are right. That car has had one new clutch put in. We have three Hondas with over 200,000 miles on them with very little maintenance. Bet you would get $2000 easily. That's low mileage for a Honda! We gave $5000 for an Accord with 170,000, I believe it is a 2000 model. |

I made a $3500 down payment. I am not upside down in the car by even a penny. Loan is for 7 years but I choose to pay about $600/Month to get it paid off sooner. I will owe less than what the car is worth very soon. But If I get in a bind my payment is under $200. |

| Yeah, we're talking about advertising the civic for $2500-$3000 and letting someone talk us down a little.
Biggest issue is not wanting to take on another monthly payment on top of a truck payment and trailer payment. The car and 2nd truck are owned free and clear.
Always something the America dream isn't it, you see yourself being able to claw out of a little debt and then you're right back in it adding more. |

| Thanks guys, I talked to the chiropractor about what I needed to look for in a better vehicle. We're going to list the Honda today for a down payment and I'll drive the truck until we can figure out what we can afford for a payment and take some time to go sit in vehicles.
Hopefully we have something before our 8 hour trip to Indiana for Christmas! |

I'm leaning towards a CRV or RAV4 just becuase we've always had hondas as daily drivers and know they are running sons of guns, but we need to go sit in some |

| Great post. I drive an 08 Impala and we have 140k+ miles on it. It's been a great car for the most part and I drive alot. We have had a few issues ... sensors going out quite a bit, kinda stalling at intersections, that the dealer hasn't been able to pin down. They either can't reproduce or it doesn't save in the codes. We take it in, get something fixed and off I go for a few months/miles. Then one day, the hesitation will start. Now, after about 50k later they think it's the transmission. It will cost more to fix than the car is worth ... but we don't have a payment. So we are debating the whole, pay for a new transmission and risk all the other little things that are starting to need repair (I've spent roughly 3k already in the past 2 months) or bite the bullet and get something else. If we get something else, what else? My son is tall and so back seat is important. I'm average height, so back seat leg room is important when I sit in the back seat. So we are starting to look. My son, of course thinks a camero is perfect. (he's 13) Thanks for your insights. |

Super sleek, all leather TONS of leg room and i wasn't sitting on the floor(kills my hips and knees to sit low). My car had 35k miles on it and it an 08. The lady bought it and then her company let her us a company car instead so this one sat. I paid $6500! I LOvE it! It gets about 32 ish plus on the freeway and less in town because it has a turbo.
