His sire is not much and his dam doesn't have any family. He's a freak but he isn't correct.
How much are you willing to risk on a horse like that? Freaks rarely produce and in the TB world you get one shot per mare per year.

| $40,000 2017 first year at stud ..
http://www.drf.com/news/california-chromes-initial-stud-fee-set-400...
He was bred to be a plodder and a late strong finisher at a mile or longer.
and his DP numbers attest to that ..
Hiss entire pedigree has Lots of base well known and successful bloodlines ....
he could end up being the super cross distance TB's are lacking right now.
I would love to have a freak that ran out over 14 million .....
even if he looked like a billy goat ... lol
CALIFORNIA CHROME
Click on sires of sires and dams and follow a lot of super bloodlines
and big time producers ... he may be the lick they are looking for ..
but not for a barrel horse ... like Storm Cat all stamina and late finisher

Couldn't agree more. His sire's stud fee is $7,500. Chump change in the TB world and there is a reason. One freak doesn't equal high stud fee.
The reason they kept running him is because they knew they wouldn't get the high stud fee in the breeding barn so they needed to get the money while they could. I doubt breeders are standing in line at $40,000. LOL On the other hand...Frosted's sire is getting $300,000. He is a proven sire and a really good one at that.

| I JUST BOUGHT CHROME'S DAM ...
With California Chrome preparing to enter stud, his ownership interests are gearing up to assemble his first book of mares. Martin, with Taylor Made consigning as agent, sold California Chrome’s dam, Love The Chase, for $1.95 million during Monday night’s Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall selected mixed sale, a move he had previously said was engineered to raise capital to purchase additional mares.
On Tuesday at Keeneland November, California Chrome LLC, as agent for Martin, appeared on the $325,000 sale ticket for racing or broodmare prospect Right There, a Grade 1-placed stakes-winning daughter of Eskendereya. California Chrome LLC also purchased Uchitel, dam of Grade 3 winner Suddenbreakingnews, for $420,000.
