To get better from just stepping wrong during exercise? I was riding my horse and was just loping some circles and working him a bit in a big open field. After I got back he was stepping short on a front foot. Nothing wrong that I could see etc. I think he either stepped wrong or maybe stepped on a rock/forged a little. How long would you give it to resolve itself before taking to vet?? Thanks! I'm going to attempt to get some magic cushion on it bit who knows if I can get him to leave it alone. Lol

My late stud fell on the 3rd barrel during a practice run. Seemed like a mild deal until it started to swell immeditaly and he was a teeny bit lame. So we cold hosed him and swelling went down and he was sound the next day. I gave him a week off nd rode him lightly and he was sore the next day. Ends up he ruined the cartilage in his knee and he was crippled for life. It was a re-injury to a pre-existing knee issue we didn't know about, but x rays proved. My point is I would maybe take yours to the vet if it doesn't get better right away. If it is a joint issue, fast treatment could prevent inflammation.

If mine limp, even subtly, they go to the vet. Sometimes they go to the vet if I thought I saw them limp. Sometimes they go if I didn't think they limped.
Take him to the vet, and let the vet decide if he should be there or not.

Just got back from vet. Went out 2 hours later and my horse was pretty much 3 legged lame. Vet was not real happy as she didnt see it as an emergency but he either has an abcess or deep bruise. He will recover with time. Thanks!
